Should I Return to Fuchs?????
The OEM Fuchs for my 88 Carrera are 15x6 and 7. I replaced then with 17” Cup wheels. I’m debating on replacing the cup wheels with 16x7 and 9 Fuchs painted to match the car as they did on the original Fuchs. Had the Cup wheels on for almost 5 years…just looking to change the appearance.....a little….I think….maybe….

No way, I think the new wheels look great :)

I am old school, i love the Fuchs. Even better ehrn the petals are polished.
|
yeah...switch back, and give me the cups! Ha Ha
Switch back, the cups are nice but the originals are the best! |
I usually like Fuchs best, but the Cups look very nice - they modernize the car a bit - I'd keep them and go to a 993 mirror to match.
Of course, a rusty Rabbit would look nice against that background of surf and sunset. |
Buy another set of fuchs and keep the cups for stylin & profilin!

The Fuchs are period correct for that car ( rubber bumper bellows car)..and would look especially nice color matched as you suggest...
The new cup wheels, although nice...look "964" and there aren't enough 964 cues on your car... ---Wil Ferch |
The cups are my favorite non-stock wheel for our year 911. I think a pair in black would look great on my car. I thought in 88 you either got 15x7 and 15x8 or 16x6 and 16x7. Either way, another guy on the board recently changed from Fuchs to 17" twists and could tell a difference in acceleration.
Fuchs are a better wheel from a performance standpoint, but they are both great looking. Is performance more important or appearance. For what you pay for some Fuchs you could also probably get some good forged aftermarket wheels. |
To me, the new wheels make the car look newer. The Fuchs (though original) date the car and with the new wheels it looks newer. To me it has to do with the sunken look of the Fuchs vs the more pushed out look of the newer wheels.
To the non-Porsche person they think your car is a new model. I get that all the time with an 89! Cracks me up. |
Those Cups look very good on your car and I think it has everything to do with the silver finish of the car. You could go either way but you are stylin' from what I see.

I was thinking about replacing my fuchs. Now, I am in a hold mode. Why? Somebody just posted a recent thread about the switch. He noticed a big difference in acceleration in first gear!
I guess lightweight means lightweight! |
Your car looks great - don't think you can go wrong with either choice.
PS - I was thinking to myself, where but Daytona can you actually drive on the beach? Ah, spring break memories from a LONG, LONG time ago... |
After just switching from aftermarket twists to fuchs, my vote is of course fuchs.
|
Keep the cups they look great on your car!
|
have 2 sets...switch back and forth!
|
I say go with Fuchs... Course I just did so I'm a little biased...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/nwsidelike.jpg

Fuchs.

Hands down the Cup wheels blow away those "old fashion" Fuch's :)
(ducking for cover, LOL) |
I like them both, but if you're going to stay with the Cups, then definitely look into getting some 993 "teardrop" mirrors.
Looks awesome on the beach, by the way... ;) |
