Upgrading to larger wheels
I currently have 15x7 Fuchs on my narrow body 911, but have the opportunity to go 16x7. I'm thinking of using a 45-profile tire, with the hope of fitting at least 225s all around, maybe even 245s in the rear.
I would like any opinion or thoughts you guys might have about this setup. I originally thought of just putting on 205-50-15s on my old wheels before the 16x7s came up. Should I stick with the 15s, or go to the 16s? Also, will a 45-series tire on a 16-inch rim lower my car's ride height from its current 205-60-15 tire/wheel combo? Will the 45-series tire on a 16-inch rim be lower than a 205-50-15 combination? I know one way or the other, this may entail a lot of lip rolling and camber, but I'm willing to go through that "inconvenience." Thank you.

205/60x15 has a rolling diameter of 1912mm
205/45x16 is 1800 (smaller, thus your speedo will be optimistic). 205/50x15 is 1790. 225/50x16 is 1928 and so is 205/55x16 (larger, speedo will indicate less). 245/45x16 is 1909. 205/50x16 is 1867. Hope this is useful. ![]() |

Mikkel - can you give me some insight into the handling characterstics of 45-series tires on 16-inch rims as opposed to 50-series tires on 15-inch rims?
Are they about equal? Is one better than the other? Thanks.

Sorry but I have 17 inch Cup1s on my car. Haven't tried 16 inch or even 50 profile 15 inch.
