Injector O-Ring Question
 

I'm stuck and can use some help with my '84 Carrera. Sent out my injectors to be serviced at RC Injection in CA, put injectors back in rails using a little Molykote on the o-rings, buttoned everything up and took it for a test drive. It's sputtering at low RPMS, and feels sluggish. I double checked all of the spark plugs and injector plugs -- everything looks OK. I did notice, however, that the (new) top o-ring on the injectors (i.e. the one nearest to the electrical connection) is fairly loose and not firmly gripping the body of the injector. You can easily turn it and wiggle it back and forth. Is this the normal fit for this o-ring? Could a loose o-ring be my problem? Any other thoughts?

you should normally be able to rotate the injector after installation, so I don't think you have a problem. If the O-rings were incorrectly sized, either you would not be able to install them or there would be a fuel leak where they seat in the fuel rails.

Did you do any additional work at this time, or just r&r the injectors?

The only other thing I did was send the rails out to be re-plated. The car sat for 6 weeks while I waited for that to be done. Maybe sediment accumulated at the bottom of the tank??

6 Weeks doesn't seem long enough to cause any fuel related issues, assuming there weren't any to begin with. how was it running before you did this work?

Did you reconnect the group of ground wires by the left fuel rail?

Did you make sure the fuel rails were clean inside before reinstalling them?

You only mention it having issues at low RPM. how did it perform at higher RPM?

You were obviously right in there by the CHT. Verify that the connector is still in good shape and seated correctly.
