Engine Number Matching

Hi all

I recently purchased a 911 3.2L Carrera Coupe

The VIN number is as follows -

WP0ZZZ91ZKS101328

The engine number is as follows -

*64KO2662*

How can I check if the engine in the car now (*64KO2662) is the one in the car when delivered

Thanks in advance
Pert Carrera 3.2L

Are you in Australia or the US? In the US, the only way to tell for sure is to spend $500. See this recent thread: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1096370-new-owner-1982-911sc-targa.html

But I don't think it is the original engine. According to the Red Book (referenced in the above thread), WPOZZZ91ZKS is for a 1988 non-US car, but engines that start 64Kxxxxx are US engines (type 930/25). Sometimes there are mistakes, so let's see if anyone else chimes in.

I think from the VIN it's an 89 model? The tenth digit is a K which indicates to me it is an 89 Carrera 3.2.

The 930/25 engines were fitted with catalytic converters for unleaded fuel so were used in the cars supplied to the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, Switzerland etc. Again the K in the engine number indicates that this is an '89 version. I have an '87 Australian delivered car which is 64H and that is original. 88's had 64J (I was not used) and 89's had 64K engines.

If this is an Aussie delivered 1989 Carrera 3.2 then it has an '89 engine in it which is more than likely original. Congrats! If you have the original service books it should have the engine number written in by hand in the first few pages. Otherwise you may be able to check with Porsche Cars Australia but not really sure.

A Porsche dealer can tell you (plus the transmission number), but it's at their discretion to do you the favor or not.
