Door lock head scratcher?
I have a 1985 911 and I am trying to fix the drivers side door lock.
It has central locking. I replaced the trigger and reinstalled there is not enough throw to activate the lock. I searched the internet and have found a difference from mine vs what is sold for replacement. Mine had a small round top on the spring shaft. The replacement has a block. I only replaced the trigger. Why do I not have enough throw? I checked the mechanism and it appears to be fine. I can make it work by hand. Any thoughts? I attached a photo of my lock. ![]() |

Door lock head scratcher?
If it is the one from EPS European Parts Solution then it has a bad design.
If you look at the top of these two parts you will see that the on the right, that is an broken original one, has less material than the one on the right that is the one from EPS. That is the reason why you’re not able to open the door. If you assemble it as it is now you will see that the trigger/opener will not go all the way out in to the door handle it self. You will have to trim away some of the aluminium so it looks just like the original one. After you have filed away the necessary material you will see that the trigger/opener will go all the way out in to the door handle. I did this job just last week. Somebody should tell EPS, if they manage to get in touch with them, EPS would not answer me at all even after several e-mails. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Classic 911; 07-06-2021 at 04:29 PM.. |

Yes that is where I got it. Makes sense to me. I will look at mine tomorrow. Will that allow for more of a throw?

more help needed
So I did that and shaved as you suggested and it did add more throw. But it still was not enough. As you can see in the photo the end of the plunger rod has some residual plastic in it. I am wondering if there is supposed to be some sort of plastic piece that is worn off. Also in the other photo there seems to be a gap between the two levers so it takes a little bit of travel before the two touch. Is that normal or is something there worn out? Should the handle pushrod be long enough to preload the lever? More help needed.
Thanks ![]() ![]() |

Door lock head scratcher?
First: yes the plunger rod shall have a small plastic at the end, see first photo.
Second: when you pull on the opening trigger the plunger rod will hit and actuate a plate-unit in the locking mechanism. When you do this you will see that there’s a little free travel before the plunger rod hits the plate-unit. You will have to bend this plate as much as you can outwards, so that the plunger rod free travel will be as short ass possible. Ok great. So I spoke with the supplier that I got the trigger from. He said that the trigger needed to be ground as you said. But he also said that the rod is too short and needs to be extended. Ho his solution was to heat the push rod and the broken plastic piece will pop out. Which it did. Then he suggested that you take a piece of welding rod and put it in the pushrod to extend it. I did all of this and it worked. Thanks for your help and hope this might help someone else.
