engine experts - question
I have a Euro 3.0 Carrera engine that I'm trying to identify. The engine numbers don't seem to be listed in my book. Can anybody help me figure out the details? Thanks

it is a puzzle but it also possible the numbers are not original ..seams a little different shape of the zero and 6...

even the "1" is completely different.

Here’s the engine. Came out of a euro car set up for the track. Did a quick run before we stripped the car down for acid dip.

let`s see if David Pateman will pitch in...you do have 1976-77 911 3,0 engine but the side numbers..strange look

3.0 numbers
I just with Mark about this. The # suggests it is a 3.0 built in 1970.Not likely as 74 was the 1st year built for 75 models. The numbers are a bit larger but the font on either side is pretty close.Looks like a blank case that was restamped.Should not matter if you build a hot rod engine.Fred

The number seems kind of like Porsche number sarcasm?? Maybe I am overthinking this…

Well, the 930 type # sure suggests a 1980 engine as opposed to a 1970. I would guess the crankcase casting part #'s are also 930. The 6400001 is a valid serial # but for type 930/07 not 930/02.
The most interesting thing is the serial 6400001 would be the first built. I have a hunch that IF the engine was numbered by the factory, then it was a special. What was the VIN? If it is very low, then we might have something special. What do the engine components fit? That is, what do the parts make it. What are the casting dates? |
Peter Dawe had the same opinion as Faapgar. Unless someone from Porsche tells me different, I'm satisfied with what these two gentlemen tell me.
|
6400001 is also a valid 1970 914/6 engine serial #, but not with the engine #'s stamped in those locations, and that sure isn't a 2.0 liter motor either. That leaves 1980 as the correct year IF the factory stamped the numbers.

What are the casting numbers?
