Simple 74 Question

My 74 911 has a switch between the steering column and the heater controls on the dash. It has a soft rubber knob and it appears that it might be a dimmer for the dash lights.

Can someone let me know what this knob should do? Mine has all wires removed. :confused:

it is the speed (delay) selector for the intermittent wipers.
