What happened to the O2 sensor

My 85 3.2 does not have an O2 sensor. PO must have removed it there is a plug in the exhaust where it would normally go.
Question; what impact does this have on the cars performance and operation.
Question; what the hell would they have done with the wiring connection, I can't find it anywhere. Would they have hidden it behind the engine in the insulation??
I'd welcome some information as to whether I should reinstate an O2 sensor or not.

Hi ABrit,

I think the Euro cars didn't have one. Is your car AUS delivered or Euro?

Cheers

No O2 sensor and I think the ECU just runs the open loop fuel map. The result is probably just reduced fuel mileage.

If you decide to install an O2 sensor, I recommend putting in a wide band O2 gauge with a repeater output and feed that signal to the ECU. That will provide visibility to potential running issues.

Using a wide band O2 sensor, I have verified the A/F numbers with the sensor in place and without. Without the O2 sensor in place, the A/F is richer by 1 to 1.4 points, so about 13.3 to 13.7 to one at cruise.

Aha mine is a UK delivered car so maybe no O2. Thanks all for the response if I do go for an O2 sensor I will definitely go wide band with repeater

I recently ran my 89 Carrera with the o2 sensor disconnected. It felt lean. Idled a bit rougher and was a bit faster.

I also have the SW chip. That might have something to do with it.

Lean is fast but can detonate.
