1976 911 fuel pump replacement

I need help! I have a 1976 Euro Carrera 3.0 targa and I need to replace the fuel pump. My question is can the two M8 Allen Head cap bolts that secure the fuel pump pan be removed without causing damage to the torsion bar brackets. Removing the cap bolts will only leave the torsion bar brackets with only one nut each to hold the torsion bar in place. Also, it does not appear to be any location at the back side of the pan to support the torsion bar if I need to. I have a Danmar scissor lift so the wheels hang. Removing the cap bolts while the car is on the ground would be most difficult. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Harry

Sorry, I meant to say sway bar, not torsion bar.

just did this the other day, have my car up on jack stands and the sway bar just shifts a little bit..no damage done to it. Just undo them to take the pan off, and you can screw them back in to hold the sway bar back in place if you really want to.

Not a problem with the sway bar.
Which fuel pump did you buy?
The newer Bosch unit will require you to change the plumbing just a bit.

No issues with the sway bar if you take the pan off. You might use some vise grips to hold the bushings/brackets to the bar in the right alignment when you install those allen bolts. a small jack to get the pan up helps me too.

Or just go with the "installation is the opposite of removal mantra"
