NY/NJ/CT FALL FUN RUN: Sunday, November 6 at 9:00 a.m. WHO'S COMING?

Hey guys,

I thought it would be smart to start a new thread for this event. Adam and I have been so busy, so sorry for the delay.

We will be meeting at approx. 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 6th at the rest stop near exit 5 on the Palisades Parkway. For the newbies, and yes, we encourage you to attend, the meeting spot is actually in the middle of the highway so both sides can access it. It is a short distance from exit 5, and you can't miss it. You must exit from the left lane to enter the station.

Once there, you will see a commuter lot with a gas station with all sorts of goodies. Donuts, coffee, etc. (no, I'm not a cop).

I figure we can depart at about 10:00 a.m. That will give us time to have a meet and greet, and let all of the late sleepers arrive as well. But get there earlier if possible.

When we depart, we'll head North on the Palisades and eventually toward New Paltz, and end up at the Brauhaus again for a lunch (unless someone has a better suggestion). They were good last time, and it was easy to find. I'll post the final set of directions in the next day or so, but I'll bring copies as well.

I am cross posting this here and on Rennlist in hopes of getting a nice turnout. The weather should get to the high 60's, with all sun, so we lucked out. I hope the forecast holds. Please feel free to pass this along to other "fun" cars, as last time we had some F-cars, a Lambo, and some Vipers (and that was on a rainy day). I think we had approx 45 or 50 cars earlier this year. Let's try to top that.

Please feel free to chime in so we can keep this thread on the top page.

Drive safely,
Jon Ripps

Let a "newbie" be the first to respond. It should be good weather and a great ride. This will be my first Pelican event. Look forward to meeting all of you.

Jon:
Susan and I are in, along with my charming 9 year old, Julie. I either have to take out my roll bar, or take two cars. Probably the roll bar will go.
Adam, are you bringing your daughter again?

I'll be there. Not sure yet if the wife is coming along.
The weather looks great and the foliage is at/ near its peak so we're in for a great day.

Hello all,

Yes, seems like we're gonna have a great turnout. Between all of the boards, we are expecting at least 20 cars. Should be good. Here is the route: If you can't print it, I'll have copies at the meet.

Meet by exit 5 at the gas station on the Palisades Pkwy (near Tappan, NY) at 9:00.

10:00 - 10:15-depart and head North on the Palisades Pkwy. Make sure you don't veer left at the split by exit 17 or 18? (don't go toward route 6 and t-way). FOLLOW SIGNS TOWARD BEAR MOUNTAIN BRIDGE (by staying right).

Once we hit the traffic circle at the end of the parkway, take your third exit (after bridge exit) onto Route 9W -north. (watch your speed until the 55 mph sign in highlands. Many cops.

Stay on 9W for approx. 30 miles (give or take). We will go thru Newburgh, where we'll run into a series of lights. If we get very spread out, I guess we can try to find a place to pull to the side for people to catch up (optional) Follow signs and stay on 9W North.

Continue on 9W North through Highland (different from above). About a mile into HIghland, you will turn West onto Route 299. (stay on for 9 - 10 miles)

We will pass through New Paltz, and continue on Route 299 West. When 299 ends and "T's" with Route 44/55, the restaurant should be on the left. We should be able to see the place from the "T". The phone number for the restaurant is 845-255-9766.

So, yes, we will in all likelihood may get split up, and yes, some will drive faster than others.....that's OK.. It's all good, b/c we are meeting at the same place. The restaurant (Mountain Brauhaus) is expecting us around noon, so there is no major rush. Again, it's gonna be a great time. The route is simple, and should be fun and nice. Let's hope the weather holds out.

Nutshell:

Palisades North to 9W North
9W North to 299 West (a.k.a. Main St.)
299 to end, Brauhaus on the left.

Count in another newbie. My son goes to school at Storm King and I can drop him off after the run. Obviously he is a future pelicanite.
Too bad The car is still not spotless but at least it's presentable. It will be fun

I'll bring the camera and we can spend the next few days reminiscing.

I wanted to use navigation also, but could not find an address. what I did find was
Kings Ferry service area, between exits 4 and 5
use the intersecting fuction of Palisade parkway and route 303. This will be close enough. or use
Latitude 41.03612 north
Longitude 73.94621 west

Sorry guys,

Not sure about the address as it's a rest stop in the middle of a highway. If think JeffO is correct though. You need to get on the Palisades Parkway and head toward exit 5, that's about it.

M325, please PM me or adam and we'll help you get to the meeting place.

Best,

And to further frustrate things, just finding the Palisades on Mapquest or similar software is not easy...not sure why it is such a difficult highway to find....

Not sure where you are in NJ but my preferred route is as follows:

1) Garden State Pkwy North to the end

2) Merge onto 287 East towards the Tappan Zee Bridge

3) Take the Palisades Pkwy South exit off of 287 (long before you get the the TZ Bridge)

4) Head southbound in the left lane (not hard in a 930!) and between exit 6-5 the rest stop will be a left exit, pay attention though because all of the sudden the exit is there!

See you Sunday morning...

My son will also join us in his 330ci.

Now, he does not have permission to trade it fo a Porsche yet so don't make him suffer.

He already has a pledge from me that I will give him my car if he finishes college with a 3.5GPA.

So what do you all think???? Enough incentive????

See you all tommorrow.
