Front end vague at higher speeds?

1988 3.2 Carrera, at higher speeds (+130km/h) the front end of the car feels loose. I ride without a spare so I thought that perhaps that was part of the problem. I put the spare back and the front end is still vague at higher speeds. A bunch of years ago, I removed the fog lights and put screens in to cover the holes. Looks good but I started to wonder if those holes are letting tons of air underneath the front end. The car has a stock front air dam and whale tail and when I purchased the car it was dead solid at high speeds. Tires are newish and inflated to 28-35 psi. Any ideas?

Check the front toe first.

Maybe it’s just time for an alignment.

All of the above but a couple of questions-same tire/wheel specs? Do you have the rear spoiler?

All of the above but a couple of questions- same tire/wheel combo? Do you have the whale tail? Not sure about the absence of the fog lights & its effects on the front aerodynamics.

Jeez, in the photo it looks like the camber is way off . Worn tie rod ends ball joints bad shocks etc... have a pro check it out it could be a dozen or more things.

Falken Azenis front 225/45ZR17, rear 255/40ZR17 on Cup 1 wheels. Whale tail. Turbo tie rod ends. I think I am going to get the alignment checked first...

I'd try blocking off the fog light holes

28 psi seems a little soft. Try 31 and see if that firms things up any.

Which “whale tail” ? Turbo style with the large lip may not be balanced with the front spoiler lip on a narrow body car!

How can you see camber in that photo?

87maniac 07-18-2021 10:39 AM

block off the foglight holes with tape,
and see if that's the issue

T77911S 07-19-2021 06:27 AM

start with an alignment.
