1981 SC Intake Runner question
I am installing the Bitz CIS to EFI Kit on my '81 SC in August (it's too hot to drive an air cooled car in Tennessee in August anyway!). In the installation manual, Tony recommends using new Intake Runner gaskets.
The guy who rebuilt the engine before I got the car told me it was a Euro model. My engine has the following number next to the fan shroud: 930 106 102 OR I have not take the intakes off yet, but I have measured the Outer Dimension of the Intake, it's 48mm. Is there a difference in intakes between US and Euro models? I just want to make sure I order the correct gaskets. I might order a set of each just to be safe and then send the unused ones to a Pelican who needs them. John Lewis 1981 911SC Targa |
Hi John. Yes, the US 78-79 SCs and all Euro SCs have larger intake runners than 80-83 US cars.
That looks like a casting number you posted. Look on the engine case to the right of the fan, facing up. If it is a US car, you should find a 930/16 stamping. A Euro car should be stamped 930/10. These are engine type numbers. Mark |
Identifying the CIS intake runners.......
You could identify the 38-mm ID intake runners as -4R which is the larger one used in ‘78-‘79 SC US and ‘79~’83 SC ROW. The ‘80~’83 SC US use 34-mm ID intake runners (-2R). You could read the part numbers on each intake runners.

Thanks guys, I will look at the runners and for the /10 or /16 stamp when I get home (date night with the wife tonight).

If it is the euro spec, order parts for the 78/79 from Pelican.
