Griffiths Variable Fan Controller
 

Just got Charlie's thermostat switch and variable fan controller. Great installation instructions and well made components. Unfortunately, my recurring low back issue is in full on mode so no installation for a while:) Damm, I hate looking at swag and not being able to install and use it.

Question for those who have installed these. Roughly how long to do so?

It took me less then one hour and a half. Hard on my knees as well as my back.

Not very long at all, fishing out the power wire from underneath the a/c air outlet on the smugglars box side took most of my time ( I used a solid copper electrical wire as puller wire otherwise it is nearly impossible to get the flexible wires through)

I cheated, and put my car on my scissor lift and up in the air so the electrical work was at a nice comfortable level.

I am the worlds slowest mechanic and simple tasks are slow for me. It was just a few hours for me.

I do love the ability to add just a tad more blowing or just a little less. The old three speed switch was "is it on" low, "I think is is blowing some" medium, and full blast high. I replaced my blower with the hurricane blower he sells as well. And I also love his thermostat. Now with the LED I know when the compressor cycles off and I can turn the compressor off, and have the fan blow in cool air on me in cool weather, as the fresh air on our beloved 911s is pitiful.

Have had his fan for some time now and don't know why I didn't add the switches then. Cheap and lazy, I guess.

No scissor lift so bending in and twisting. Hope my back clears soon.

I did the whole system at once so it's hard to say for me what JUST the fan controller would be. Taking that Rubik's cube of a console apart and putting it back together was definitely the biggest hassle.

The controller is awesome, particularly if you have the hurricane blower installed. You practically have to wear eye protection if you have the vent directed at your face and you turn it to max.

Sitting here this morning rereading instructions and holding and caressing my parts like Gollum with his "Precious". Maybe next week as the Pred is mitigating my back issue a bit.

Thanks for the time estimates. I can easily find a morning to devote to this project and suspect it will be a morning with my anal habit of finding things to tidy up when doing projects:)

I just replaced my OG three speed switch (fried/corroded males connectors prevented the free flow of electrons) with an identical NOS one … had I known, I might have upgraded. Charlie’s stuff is always awesome, and I wince whenever I read, “… and then I ripped out the A/C”. Maybe cut of your nose while you’re at it.

Mike, best wishes for your back. I am a fellow traveler in this regard. If you can swing the budget, a lift will add years to your ability to care for your car(s). And beware of anyone suggesting fusion surgery.

Replaced the OG several years ago. Wasted money as I should have put Charlie's switch in then.
No back surgery in my future. Not a believer in long term results.

May I say that last sentence is brilliant. I am going to see if Griffith items will play nice with the CLassic Retrofit system.

I’m back but please don’t tell;). Apparently Griffith and Classic Retrifit should not be mentioned together. At any rate I am still fascinated by the controllability offered by Griffith. Will someone kindly show the wiring instructions? DM if you like. I want to have this sorted before I cut anything. Just an on off button for CR seems inadequate. Thanks!
