80s Oil lines on long hood - fitment issue

My picture doesn't do justice to show how far the line is from the rocker. Are the jack points located farther forward on later cars?

My car is a 70, the line came from an 85 and is identical to a another SC line I have. I just assumed it would fit up correctly. I have the line touching the A pillar behind the front tire, nothing more to be gained there.

Older cars used a few different lines and coolers, I don’t think later lines will fit without mods.

I think mine is the same (69T), but painted black like the shutz I never even noticed it.

It's a little hard to see from this angle, but on my '69 the bend in the oil line is not quite centered on the jack receiver, a bit forward like yours but does have some clearance. I didn't have to do any massaging to the lines to make it fit. These were from an SC era car.

Thanks for the feedback and picture. I don't have the rubber isolators or clamps installed yet and those hold the lines farther from the rocker than I envisioned. I wrongly thought the lines needed to be sucked up tight to the rocker.

Back to the garage!

I'll be tackling this project on my '69 this weekend. Did you use factory brackets for the rocker mounts?

I added an external cooler to my 1973.5 The lines were the proper length but did not line up nicely. We just made sure they were securely attached.

I fabricated the tabs that are welded to the car. Pretty simple to do as there are no complex bends. I have an '85 that I used as a guide. The rubber pieces around the tube and the clamp are factory parts, and the screw is a 1.25" self tapping type. I've seen a lot of implementations using the same type of clamp I have holding the tubes to the front fender well along the bottom of the car. I tried this approach and definitely could not get the lines to properly align, and it looked rather amateurish, so I bit the bullet and went with the Carrera style mounting setup.

I've installed a set of G50 Carrera lines on my SWB.
Getting the hump to sit over the jacking point takes a bit of fiddling.

Here are a few photos of the brackets I made and welded in - not complicated.

Some fabrication to take the Carrera oil lines.
And an semi successful attempt to straighten some of the dings.

With regards the fit. The approach I used was to get the lines in loosely first. So the thermo stat is attached, but the lines are not tight. The clamps are attached along the sill, but the lines can slide froward and backwards. You may want to detach the link lines to the cooler in the front. Everything attached but loose allows the lines to be slid a little forward and backwards to position them correctly in relation to the jacking point. While you do this, the thermo stat will 'rotate' clock or anti-clock wise. The lines in the front wheel well will do the same. A few manly cable ties help keep them in position when you are ready to tighten them up.
