I have a wiring diagram for the power windows (1973 models)...the color scheme on a few of the wires differs from my 1975, does anyone know the correct color scheme?
My drivers side is working, but when I wired the passenger side it just blows the fuse...so I must be wrong with my connections. ![]()

I don't know what the correct wiring diagram would be for your car (I've checked through Haynes manual) but here's one for an SC to compare.

Sounds like you have the red and brown wires switched on the passenger side. On my '75, looking at the back of the switch with the two contacts (prongs) on the top and the single on the bottom. The top right wire is brown, while the left is red. The red wire also branches off to the bottom prong. The two wires in the center are the wires that go directly to the window lift motor. These will work no matter which way they are plugged in. The only difference is which way the windows travels in relation to the direction you move the switch.
P.S. I shared your quote re: People in fear call cops etc.with some friends on the force. For some reason, they weren't amused. Tender ego's??

Recently changed the window motor
k9handler,
I recently changed the window motor on the driver side of my '75 Targa so I had the opportunity to note the wiring. Driver side switch (looking at the back, double posts up and single post down) Upper left: Red Upper right: Brown Middle left: Black Middle right: Green Lower: Red Passenger side switch (looking at the back, double posts up and single post down) Upper left: Red Upper right: Brown Middle left: Red with black stripe Middle right: Red with white stripe Lower: Red I think this is consistent with what Glasgow 911SC and KevinP73 provided. Come back! Nah, you're probably ok.
Mine used to blow a fuse sometimes because the wires had been badly rerouted at some stage and were grounding - it might pay to check them quickly while the whole shebang is open. (Cam - who did the very hard yards, sitting with a multimeter, a notepad and the switch, figuring out how it worked - why? good question!)

Not a problem The red/black and the red/white are your power source wires, One will plug into the single prong on the bottom of the switch, the other will attach to the top left prong. The only difference will be which way the window moves in relation to the direction you move the switch. Your window may move in the opposite direction of the switch, if so you can either turn the switch over and re-install it or just switch the two leads.

The brown remains the same. It's a ground wire. The other two wires feed directly to the window motor. As long as they are plugged to the center prongs on the switch everything should operate smoothly. If not, I say your trouble lies somewhere other than a switch. The best way to trouble shoot the system is to remove your door panel and using jumper wires operate the window lift motors directly. A bad motor will either not run at all or run too slowly. As CamB stated earlier, you may need to check other areas of the system. The wire insulation tends to wear at the point where they run thru the door frame, make sure the grommet is intact.
Good luck.

No *****? And I thought my '75 had had the wiring messed with. Maybe the factory did its own messing. If you are still stuck, I'll dig out my wiring diagram (at home) and report back. But what Kevin says sounds right (they are pretty simple when you figure it out).
