My Fake Fuchs...Does anyone have any info?

Hi, I am quite sure my Fuch wheels are fake are searching the forums, they are stamped AX Wheels (on the inside), can anyone provide me with info on these fake wheels. Are they safe? Are they made in the US? Should I keep them? Any help appreciated!

I’m no expert but the holes for the lug nuts look stretched/oval in shape. hmmm…

Definitely fakes. I am certain they are not safe with those stud holes out of round; how can you be certain the wheels are centered.

Isn’t that the job of the center bore and not the lug nuts?

I think on real Fuchs the centering is done by the nuts (or shared) not the center hole. Otherwise the tapered nuts would sort of bind.

I think real ones are hub centric.

I can post pictures showing real ones don't have the appearance of being hub centered.
The function might be shared but it doesn't look that way on real ones.

Well, I could be wrong. I have the wheels off on my car, went and looked again, and I see fretting marks on the hub where the "high" spots are on the wheels. So it looks like hub centric is at least part of what is going on on the real parts. This is aside from the agreement? that the OP wheels are not real Fuchs.

Well, I don't think they are real, and they are mine lol. I was hoping that someone just might know some info about them. Where/when they were made?

If the were fake back in the 1970's I will probably keep them as I think that is pretty cool. Just like bootleg star wars figures that are cool to have.

I had a set something like yours. I used them for AX and track. They held up well. There is probably a tread around here somewhere where I asked re. what they were and/or who made them.

Not all Fuchs are hub centric, nor are all hubs; I think that arrived about 1973. But why are the holes ovaled? Were they not drilled on a 130mm circle? Were the seats not drilled on a 130mm circle? If the seats are not correctly located, then how can the nut be seated correctly and torqued correctly and thus safe to use?

I am not expert, but the nuts are rounded at one end so the fit really well in the holes that are cut. I reckon it would make changing them in a hurry much faster.

@hcoles if you find that thread ( I could not) please let me know.
