EVO mag group test
Well, Evo magazine did their group test with my '74 MFI 2.7 Carrera, a 1977 Lamborghini Urraco and a 1981 Ferrari 308GTB yesterday. Have to say the Carrera was still my favourite at the end of the day.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/evogroup.jpg Rode in the Lambo – which was a dog. Sorry to say that because I've always liked older Lamborghinis but this one was clearly in need of some chassis work as it wouldn't track straight at all. 308 was pretty but looked too 'flashy' for me. The woner admitted that the previous owner had spent a total of $50,000 on the chassis and engine and another $20,000 on bodywork – all for a car that's worth about $30,000 at the most. The mag guys seemed to like the Carrera but hinted it would be a close run thing between it and the Ferrari. Who knows (who cares!)? I know what I like.... :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/4rear.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/sideKS.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/engineKS.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/KSmuffler.jpg Now has RS ducktail, Yokohama A008Rs on 7 and 8 x 15, Bilstein 'race' shocks, Bilstein RS seats and Autofarm factory-style sport muffler. Due to be lowered 30mm next month and then get a factory Matter half rear cage. And I said I was never going to mess with this car..... |
Keith,
I have to admit to liking the 'Magnum P.I' style Ferraris but I would still choose the 911. The ducktail is a really nice touch. Thought of backdating the bodywork to early style? You would pretty much have the much lusted after '73 Carrera! BTW are you lowereing the car yourself or is a shop doing it? Will it be magazine featured? |
I like the outside of the 308, but if you have ever seen the interior of one, they are seriously dated!
|
Cool 308... makes me want to hop in and drive down to The King Kamehameha club to meet TC and Rick for a drink.
Your 911 has kept its styling for sure. |
Sonic--you left out Higgy Baby!!
Mike 86 coupe |
Mike... yeah but Higgy Baby usually just hung out at the Robbins Nest with Zeus and Apollo (the dogs). I liked that show, as you can tell.
|
Nice pics Keith! Do you have any of the interior (I wanna see the seats!).
I bet if the Ferrari wins, it is because it is a "Ferrari", and that the Porsche is the practical choice... PS, why no front spoiler? |

Lowering will be done by Autofarm and, yes, it will be in the magazine. Plans include uprating to Carrera 3.2 adjustable trailing arms (spring-plates) and torsion bars at the saam time. Glad you like the look. I do too:D |

Front spoiler? I'm trying to locate a good Carrera 'lip' spoiler at a decent price. I'm a cheapskate.... ;) |
Ill look out for the pics.
I've got an average condition front lip spoiler - free to a good home (in New Zealand!!!!!!!!!!!!) |
OK - I've never driven a 308, I did sit in a co-worker's once. I grant you that the Ferrari is nothing if not a shot of straight testosterone and sounds like an F1 car (assuming that it has carbs).
But I'd pick my 911 to live with. Parts are cheaper, the racing history of the model is longer, it has SOOOO much more space inside (and I'm only 6 ft and 180 pounds), it's easier to fix and get parts for, it still sounds awsome at 7000 RPM, and that is just for a little 2.0E. Since the article is about a 2.7 Carrera with MFI, it doesn't sound like much of a decision to me. |
