Yellow wire from Starter Motor run directly to the ignition switch?

I am lazy.

Can anyone tell me whether the cable is suppose to run directly from starter motor to the ignition switch? The car had an aftermarket car alarm fitted and I can see the yellow wire from the ignition switch has been cut and a black wire used.

I pretty sure it does but I seeing a mass of cables and what looks like yards of electrical tape I need to unravel.

Asking for the advice before I start it on Saturday..or maybe Sunday..am feeling lazy at present

I did that On my 73 E. harness connector was not connecting properly so bypassed in a couple places (Starter and oil pressure).

Geof,

The yellow wire from the starter is connected to the ignition switch @ START (terminal #50).

i suggest getting the bare metal crimps, crimp the wires then solder the wires in the crimp then put heat shrink over it. (put the heat shrink on first).

you can also just solder it together then use heat shrink.

Yellow solenoid wire runs from starter to the 14 pin connector at the rear fuse panel, then through the body harness to a connector in the trunk on the back of the 6 pin ignition connector that goes through the dash sheet metal. The ignition switch has a small harness that plugs into that connector under the dash.

If it's like my car the yellow wire is cut so that two alarm wires can be spliced in. The two ends of the cut yellow wire should still be visible. The idea is that the yellow wire is rerouted through the alarm and when the alarm is ON the connection to the starter motor is disconnected. If the alarm doesn't work properly then this could prevent the starter motor from operating. I'm sure a knowledgeable thief could easily by-pass this disabling by putting a jumper lead on the two yellow wires.

wiring diagram

Difficult to debug without using a wiring diagram for your 911....here are excerpts from a 78 911....should be similar to yours....
D is the ignition switch
B is the starter
