Dirty Transmision

I just started my motor rebuild due from a broken head stud (Arrrr! I have a broken head stud!) and have begun the tear down process. Today I split the tranny from the motor and noticed that there was quite a bit of gunk in there. Is this common for a '78 to look like this or do I have other problems other than a broken head stud? The wetness on the bottom of the tranny is because I took the pics after round one of pressure washing it.

The inside looks pretty much the same as my 1984 3.2. I expect to see a weeping seal behind my flywheel when it comes off for skimming.
The outside of my 915 was bone dry in comparison to yours, did you have a major oil leak?
