Chris, I’ve been following your thread on the 924/44/68 page. Remember, “it’s not a 924, it’s a 924S!” (Point of fun I have with my friends. “It’s the next 73 RS” is another, but that hasn’t gained much traction yet.)

I used gallon-size Ziploc baggies in place of turn-plates. I don’t even spray WD40 or olive oil in them. Work great.

Instead of the boxes (which are heavy because I built them like brick $hithouses), 4 x Harbor Freight motocross stands could work with some tweaking. Keep an eye on Craigslist for a set of real Hunter “tables”. I missed a couple of sets. They are the mac daddy. As are the hub stands sold by 928 International.

Hub stands aren’t low cost but they sure take the PIA out of DIY alignment. These from CSM Performance back when the offered a lower cost setup.

How about using V blocks to mount the bubble/digital level for a caster read???

With alignments now $250 I would like to use my alignment tools but I have trouble getting the car off the ground. The hub stands look good but expensive. I also have trouble finding a level area to do the work.

I spent all day waiting for an alignment (86 911) and it was still not done.

I have Elephant camber plates and rear camber max plates. They still had trouble.

Most alignment shops refuse to do early 911s because the rear is so hard to get right.

I can keep dropping $250 at alignment shops or start doing it myself. Is there a DIY repair/alignment story on Pelican?

1 ball of nylon fishing line
20 or so linoleum squares
3 or 4 60# bags of redi-crete (or a patient girlfriend of equal weight)
4 jackstands which you should already own
2 yo-yos in 1/32nds or 2 wood yardsticks (free @ Ace) in 1/4" increments if you're aligning a NASCAR
1 carpenter's level and the ability to do some 7th grade geometry

This is not rocket surgery.
