Carpet ideas?
I've been calling around trying to find carpet, and it just ain't happenin'. German squareweave is out of stock everywhere, with ETAs between "Maybe next year" and "Never". Silverknit? Same thing. Even our host can't get it for ya. Before I break down and buy a Perlon carpet set, can anyone offer ideas for something a bit more... custom? Wool (Rolls Royce), velour (996), painted fiberglass over deadening, maybe even straight leather/vinyl, etc. Gimme some ideas!
Example: Carbone's project redrum, which is I believe what Singer uses for their builds: ![]() |

When reupholstered my entire interior this past spring, I bought a new carpet kit from Autobahn Interiors. I wanted German Square Weave too but it was also unavailable. I ended up going with Boxster carpet. Although not what I envisioned at the beginning, I’m still quite pleased with the end result. Food for thought.

TeeJay,
I cut my own from a roll of Daytona Weave...... Mark where you need binding and have a local trim shop sew it on.

^^^^ I went to a large upholstery supplier and fund a carpet I liked. I too looked around for a local trim shop to sew the binding on. They all wanted a fortune - like 85 cents/ft. to do it, & there are a lot of feet of binding. I was lucky I could take it to Tijuana & get a good job done for cheap,

There is less than 100 lf to be done. I think I paid around $0.50/lf and furnished the binding.
I did not do the front driver or passenger foot areas. I used something else for those areas. All in all it's not a lot of money to do it right. ![]()

I just purchased a piece of german square weave (317 gray) from RELICATE in New York...says it was his last piece, but sufficient for what I needed. I would try them.

German velour is coming back in stock, and most suppliers (including Autobahn) still have it in stock though they are getting low right now. Velour is the stock/optional carpet for 65-73 911's. Not sure if the colors in velour are available (most cars had the black salt/pepper) but it was originally and off and on recently in red and also a brown color.
Note that I've been looking and can't find square weave in Europe either. Lots of other auto related items unavailable or low supply in Europe as well such as paint hardener etc. e
