Oil Changes - Giant Oil Pan for the FLOOD
Hello All,
Recently, there seems to have been a series of posts concerning oil changes or "How to Duplicate the Valdez Oil Spill in My garage" threads. Locally, at a place called GI Joes, I found this 16 quart collection pan. It has several really nice (in my mind) features: 1-Large opening to collect the massive flow fromthe oil tank; 2-Screen to catch the plug when it falls; and 3-Nice spout to transfer oil to other containers to recycle the used oil (I do live in Oregon ![]() I lay the pan on it's side and remove the cover to expose the screen and large opening. I drain the oil, put the cover over the hole, stand it up and pour the oil into 1 gallon jugs. No mess, no bother. ![]() ![]()

Great idea. I had this pan and the opening leaked like crazy whent I tried to store it vertically (with oil inside). Just a heads up!

Thanks Harry!
I'm off to GI Joes. The oil will go directly to gallon jugs. Will not attempt storage. Thanks for the heads up Chris! |

Thanks for the tip, Harry.
Also be sure to check the integrity of your pan first, mine had a hole melted in the bottom!

Harry, please stop telling everyone you are an "unemployed" chemical engineer. You are making us look bad.

One note about the "GI Joes". I have the same one or one very similar to it. When you remove the drain plug, make sure to pull the plug away from the draining oil, otherwise the oil will hit the plug and splash all over the place.

That happended the first time I used it. From then on, I loosen it quickly and let it drop. As far as I can tell, any pan you use will have that issue. ![]()
