Don’t feel bad- the only reason I know is because it stumped me for an afternoon too!! Ha!

CIS K-Jetronic fuel pressure tester........

A PP member from New Zealand could not find a vendor willing to ship the package to him. He ordered a kit and have it mailed to Philadelphia.

This kit has all the adaptors you will need for your CIS fuel pressure troubleshooting. I have 5 kits with the oldest unit purchased in the mid ‘90’s from JC Whitney. They are accurate and reliable. Look for S & G Tool #33800.

This is a timely post. I just got an 83 SC. It will start cold, but idles pretty rough and hesitates and simply won't rev. Once it gets warm it starts to run much better, but it takes a while. I was really hoping for a simpler "first project" on the car, but this is where I'm at.

Looks like my first step is to order the pressure testing kit.

Just be methodical and patient and it’s a really easy (and necessary) first project. Once you wrap your head around CIS and get into the system it all makes sense and you’ll feel really capable.

Thanks. Got one on order. Trying to diagnose a fluctuating idle at startup.

well, since it's going to take a week+ to get my CIS pressure tester, I decided to inspect my WUR in the meantime. That screen looks kind of gunked up. I'll get some carb cleaner and try and clean it up while I'm waiting. Hopefully, this works for me just like it did the original poster.

An update from me. I cleaned out the WUR screen and turns out that wasn’t the problem. However, after reading some other threads and a note from the previous owner (about the car previously being at 7000ft elevation) I decided to give the fuel mixture screw a little turn towards rich (maybe 1/4 turn at most). The car idles and revs and runs now!

Anyway I still need to get an AFR gauge and still need to learn the ins and outs of CIS, but I’m really happy now. I was kind of bummed to have a new to me car that ran like crap (and wasn’t cheap).

This forum is great, and one of the best reasons for owning an old Porsche (e30 BMWs also have a great community).
