Sport Seat Options

Looking for some ideas for replacing the standard 70 seats with something with a bit more side support. Early sport seats apparently are made of unobtainium as evidenced by their recent valuations, so I am looking for alternatives that keep a reasonable period representation in appearance while giving me better support and comfort. Will 3 series BMW seats be an easy mod? Some of the 310, 320 and 325 seats look pretty decent. I am also 6'3" and 230, so that makes getting a comfortable seat a bit difficult....anyone try this?

If you don't require a period-correct seat, why not update to later 911 sport seats instead of going to another marque? They go for $500-1000 a pair in good to excellent condition.

Chris, it you plan to track the car, think about a seat with a sub-belt hole. The Recaro SRD is popular. Also, Recaro appears to be introducing a new seat line - Sport and Speed. http://www.recaro-nao.com/seattechnologies/aftermarket/Flyer_SEMA.pdf - that have a "period" look.

RallyJon:
Will the 81-84 manual Sport seats..as evidenced by your illustrations..sit you lower than the later power sport seats..or even the later power standard seats ( say...from an 85 Carrera?)

I don't know. I installed the 81-84 type in my car, and I sit about 3/4" higher than in the mid-70s vinyl/cloth standard seats they replaced. Some of that is due to condition of the foam, as well as design.

But I've never sat in the powered seats.
