82 sc with 3.6. How do I read codes
Anyone have any ideas on how to read codes on a 3.6 conversion. When it warms up will not rev shut off instantly start back up and it revs. Thank Kevin

I don't have one either. Never really needed it.
Do you have a spare relay for the fuel injection/brain? It may have a short. |
What year 3.6 in in it? What year wiring harness and ECU?

Here is how I got the flashing codes for my 95 transplant. This is wired to an indicator light on the dash. The obd 1 cars send a series of light flashes to indicate faults.
Using the 1995 electrical schematics from the workshop manual traced the circuit from DME for the CEL. It is pin 21 on the DME to pin 8 on the “conversion” harness. My failure was not tracing enough to realize the DME throws a ground to turn on the light so you need to add a 12+ engine on wire to complete this circuit. You can take it a step further and add the diagnostic plug with more splicing into the harness. The electrical schematics will help with that as well. I have all the parts to do that but once I got the flashing indicator to work I put the diagnostic plug project in the back burner. |

I believe the 95 993 OBD 1 motor has the same ecm wiring as the 964. PM an email address and I can send you the 95 ecm schematic and you can make either a CEL work or a diagnostic plug.

964 may be pin 22 and this one may be of some value. If you just get the cel wire and a positive wire to a light following the 964 code reading procedure flashing light pulses should work.

There are two ways to accomplish this:
1. Wire up the CEL of the ECU to a light. That way you can flash out any potential error codes. The procedure is explained in the Porsche WSM. Essentially you hold the throttle all the way down while turning the ignition to ON. Once the CEL begins to flash release the pedal. 2. Wire up a stock 964 or OBD plug and use the Hammer or a DurametriIc cable. Being able to read codes is invaluable IMHO unless you wanna throw parts at an issue. |
