What is this rain tray?

I have this rain tray to which I don't know what it belongs to. I see the rain tray for 912 are larger and rectangular.

It lines up perfect under the grill with all attaching points, Does not need stand off type hardware and no part number or other markings.

Someone here I'm sure can ID it.

Thank in advance

Sawyer

Surprised no one here can ID it. Just don't know if it is part of another tail or after market. If installed I wonder how it affects airflow. Would it block off flow or would it cause a more direct tighter flow to the fan?

Nyone??

912E Drip Pan

It's a 912E drip pan, 923-512-127-01. See Post 6 of Deck Lid - drip pan and Post 8 confirms this.

So why the difference in style? The early 912 got the larger rectangular one and the 912E got the smaller one? The only difference is maybe the wiper motor. Was the 912E the only 912 to get the rear wiper and needed the different tray to fit it?

I've seen two different wiper mounting set ups. One as in the one picture mounted towards the top of the lid and grill and the other mounted on a bracket in the center of the lid. Don't know if tail or no tail makes a difference.

But there is one or two mentions of them being on the 911. Interesting is there are corresponding screw holes on the inside bracing of my decklid to allow for screwing it on.

It mounts with three T bolts (each end and center) two screws between the T bolts and two screws below the outer most T bolts.

In my case the screw holes had something already there once and removed.

The car is a 79SC euro all the way and no options.

I might use it but not sure of any benefit or air restriction.

Maybe a dryer/cleaner motor and different air vortex feeding the fan or a air blocker. Might have worked for the 912 as a water intrusion deterent and being a smaller 4 cylinder not affect cooling capacity.

The square one is for a 1976 912e.

I’ve never seen the angled one before, maybe a turbo or A/C equipped car? Also maybe for a rear wiper?

Sawyer,

Not sure why these are different. I just remembered this being on a friend's 912E from years ago.
