The First 911 - Show Yours!
In honor of the start of our Porsche Month, we're kicking things off with the "911" that started it all, the 901!
Post photos of your first Porsche below! Some history on the 901: "In September 1963, Porsche presented the Porsche 901 at the IAA in Frankfurt as a successor to the Porsche 356.Series production of the 901 began in September 1964. When Porsche presented the vehicle at the Paris Motor Show in October of that year, the French car manufacturer Peugeot objected to the model designation. The reason: Peugeot had patented a three-digit type designation with a zero in the middle. Porsche therefore renamed the 901 as the 911. This combination of numbers is the same as the emergency number in the USA and was therefore already well known in this key market for Porsche. 82 units of the 901 were produced before the name change." Features: - Bumpers with chrome-plated bumper guards - Rear lid with chrome-plated air grille - Chrome-plated horn grille - Round, chrome-plated exterior mirrors - Gold-colored Porsche logo - Windscreen wipers lie to the right Looking for parts for your early 911 - Click Here http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1630531895.jpg source: porsche |

Yellow HotWheels 911 with a ducktail. Original owner, yadda yadda yadda. It's been through a lot, but I've still got it.
And then the V. Blue 911 Turbo it inspired about 30 years later. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1630546612.jpg |
My first, 1978 911SC. I had this car from 1989 up to 1995 when it was totaled at Hwy 1 at Big Sur California. Picture was circa 1994, San Luis Obispo CA.

My white gold '85 bought in 2001.
Sold 10 years later to Netherlands to make room for the Guard's Red '88. Wanted the G50, extra head room and better ventilation of the '88. Good move! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1630595099.jpg |
Any excuse to post pictures
'88 3.2 with LSD. Black/Black. Exactly as I was searching for. Just replaced the A/C compressor, adjusted the valves, replaced pads & front rotors, replaced the battery, removed some extraneous aftermarket wiring, and had a local Air Cooled shopp give it a thorough inspection since I took delivery early last month. Purrs now. Planning to replace **** bushings and touch up some corrosion on the shift lever this weekend. New tires next week. Paint correction, PPF, and ceramic next month. Fix up the radio (currently not working) over the winter. https://i.imgur.com/9HVfiI2.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7h2Gc1L.jpg |

My first and only 911. 26 years and counting. Here you can see I was protected by my 911 from one of those mean and nasty cones trying to attack me! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1630602381.jpg I managed to escape from the killer cones with some evasive driving. |
These are all amazing guys! Thanks to everyone that has shared so far!
Keep them coming - the stories make them that much better! |
First 911 was a 1972 911T bought in 1977 Kentucky and traded in Virginia 1981 - very old and grainy photo from Virginia - - Father and Son - - now Son has 1978 911 race car - - My first Porsche was a 1958 356 that I bought in 1964 with a blown engine . . . rebuilt engine with some used parts found in San Luis Obispo area - AND - flunked out of Cal Poly doing the rebuild instead of the homework . . . US Navy tour got my head fixed (sort of) . . . later had '72 914, the '72 911 and now an '02 Boxster and shared race car with older son . . . still enjoying Porsches after 50+ years . . . and working on the '78 race car keeps my head in the game . . . I'll never forget the thrill of the '72 911 and that flat 6 sound with an Abarth exhaust and mechanical fuel injection 2.4L fantastic acceleration . . .

My First 911
Way back in 1971 (when I was 23) I found this car in the classified ads section of the Los Angeles Times. Model year 1966 911, golf blue, 30K miles on the odometer in flawless condition. It was a 1965 build with Nadella half-shafts, Solex "overflow" carbs. Love at first sight, paid $3500 to the original owner, a Beverly Hills lawyer. Of course in those days these cars were somewhat routine. I drove it to work and college everyday and parked it outside at night. The photo shows skinny me washing it out in front of the house where my wife and I lived in 1973. We eventually sold the car a few years later moved on to other interests but the memory of that one lingers on. Of course I should have just kept it!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1630940989.jpg

In 1999 I went to my Dad’s house for dinner. He hadn’t gotten home yet from work so I was chatting with my Stepmom when out of nowhere he shows up in a silver 1973 911 Targa. He tells us he just bought it on a whim for 9k from a guy at work (very unlike him as he’s the most modest and least frivolous guy I’ve ever known).
He tells me to hop in and within 5 seconds I was in love with the sound of the engine. Being single and in my early 30s I vowed to get my own ASAP. After about 6 months of searching I bought this 1982 row Targa to begin my addiction to Porsche ownership. He and I would drive our cars into the hills in Northeast San Diego County every chance we got. Marriage and quite a few kids unfortunately led to me sell it in but I instantly regretted it. After a 10 year hiatus I now own my Dad’s 73 (2nd pic) that had sat in his barn for a number of years. Just had the engine rebuilt so the ear to ear grin is now etched on my face once again. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1630990100.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1630990314.jpg |
