Sport seat knob ignorance :-(

I am finally getting around to installing a pair of recovered 84, 944 sport seats in my 74 coupe, which is hopefully getting ready to run after 10 years.

My problem is getting the round back adjusting knob to stay on. I can hold it in place and adjust the back angle, but the knob doesn't want to stay on and i don't want to break something. One of the three metal tabs on the adjuster is tweeked out just a bit. Here is a shot of the knob.

The seat has a matching cam ring that grabs the knob. Figure out which way to turn the knob to engage the cam, then hold the seat back and REALLY tighten the knob against the cam. Should rotate 1/4 turn (give or take) to lock into the cam.

Edit - WRONG See below

Thanks Solamar,
I'll give it a shot when i get back into the gayroge. Dealing with a split sprinkler line, daughters sewage lift pump failure, rental issues and finishing post paint trim repairs.

Hi Chris,

My apologies, I gave you bad info...

I just re-installed my side adjust knobs on my 2nd gen SC sport seats and it was slightly different than I expected.

Their is a thin stamped metal center lock ring that rotates independent of the knob. The plastic knob has raised bosses on the backside that mate with slots on the inner metal dial.

To install the knob, the center cap must be removed (still don't know how to 'gently' remove). The thin stamped lock ring must be rotated to allow the knob to sit in the slots/bosses on the back side. With the knob properly set, the thin lock ring can be spun to lock the knob in place.
