Sludge in air cleaner hose to oil tank

Hi , Guys , ever wonder about the yucky sludge in the hose that goes between the bottom of the air cleaner , and oil tank cap/ filler pipe ? Well , it has bothered me , so , I came up with this : measure the distance of the hose to the intake stack , cut hose in half . Next , fit a “T” pipe fitting to both halves of t hose , on the bottom of the “T” fit a short piece of hose , ( this where the sludge will be) after a cork like bung is fitted. Tie off all connections tightly with cable ties . Now connect up air cleaner and oil tank filler . The unit sits behind the intake stack, and can’t be seen . I have found this has given me , piece of mind .

That sludge (milky tan colored) indicates there is condensation in the crankcase. You need to take her out for longer drives so the condensation gets cooked off.

Some would suggest starting over with an oil change.

More Sunday drives, fewer trips to the grocery.

some sludge in breather hoses is normal. In colder climate, as here, it is the norm. It would be mad to change oil because of it. Oil is likely completely dry and the sludge is from condensation. 1 liter og gas equals about 1 liter of water formed. Most of that goes out the tailpipe and some goes into the oil and is vaporized and then condenses in the colder breather hose. Nothing to worry about at all

Hi, Guys, thanks for your reply. Yes , long trips are the answer , but given the CV19 , etc , who can resist a drive of a 911 , sitting in the garage! With my invention, simple , cheap , done in half hour. I owned 69 911E for 37 years , driven it over 250,000 miles . Do over 98% work on it myself . Thanks

Hi ,Guys, well, now I have driven over ,5000 miles ,in 20 days , on a road trip , ( South Island , of New Zealand , so Beautiful , great roads ) . Today, drained my “T” junction, catchment, on my 911E , hose from air cleaner to oil tank . See earlier post . As you will see in the photo , the amount of “Sludge” that didn’t get to the oil tank !! I think this should be considered, as a way to keep the engine oil clean . What do you think ?? Regards
