Porsche Crest SUPER 911's ... Highest Miles you know of

SUPER 911's ... Highest Miles you know of?

Does any one know of any High Mile Porsche 911's?

How about 250,000 out of the same crank case and cylinders?

I don't personally know many, but I haven't been in the community that long, but I can tell you that you had better increase your guess because I think we'll quickly be talking close to double that.

My buddy has a 79 930 that has over 300,000. It has had Carrera tensioners added but i am pretty sure that the motor has never been torn down. The car is undergoing a total restoration right now, and from the looks of the motor it could not possibly have been rebuilt.

A friend of mine has a 210,000 mile SC motor that he races regularly. It's never been rebuilt, has no cat, no Carrera tensioners or other modifications, and is also a daily driver.

Thanks Steve, Paul and DD74. Thats pretty good!!!
Any insider tips on how your buddies got that many miles out of their engines.

#1 Changing oil every month or 750 miles?
#2 Did they use synthetic oil or teflon type of engine coating?
#3 Warm up?? I always warm my engine up 2 -5 minutes every morning and for 2 minutes after I make a stop.
#4 Hot plugs and top of the line fuel injection cleaner?

Thanks again,
your the best !

My Carrera (new to me for about 6 weeks now) has just South of 180,000 miles. No engine tear down as far as records show. Compression test showed good results. Uses about 1/2 quart oil every 1,500-2,000 miles. Temp rarely gets to 2nd white line. Druck Press reads at about 4.5 - 5 when running at 3,000 rpms.

Being that I just paid to have the tranny swapted out, I hope to get another two years atleast of daily driving out of the engine.

I'm around 206K on my carrera now. I've had my car since 173K. I have all the records and as far as I can tell, the engine has never been touched. It's been a daily driver it's whole life. It was stock until I got my grubbies on it. Now it sees that track as much as possible. i.e. budget allows.

I have 248,000 and I'm just finishing the first top end rebuild! The case has never been split.

My car has spent most of its life in Germany! I'm the 3rd G.I. to own it. I do know that it was in the states for a short time in the mid 80's but thats it.

The key to a long life is to use them a LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I general I don't think any of the things you list should be done. Changing the oil every 750 miles is a waste. 3K is fine. Synthetic is unnecessary, and in fact if you change an older engine from dino to syn you'll likely get leaks starting. Warm up (idling) is not good for these engines. Start it and go, just keep it under 3K or so until the oil warms up. A bottle of Techron in the tank right before an oil change, but no other engine treatment.

At least that's what I do, and is what is indicated by most of what I've read.

check out this recent thread. Not only SC's but everything else.

How Many Miles Are On Your Car?

PS: O yea - One big Techron works, and once between oil changes is fine. Synthetic oil isn't gonna do much for you except possibly get you a few more leaks - if you tear it apart and reseal it then synthetic if you prefer. 15w-40 or 20w-50 (my choice all year round) Like everyone says, don't idle for warmup, just get in and don't stomp it until you're warmed up. As for plugs, just stay with stock copper, no need for experimenting with freak plugs like Splitfires or odd heat settings.

Oil additives (teflon, Duralube, etc.) belong in the garbage. Good way to ruin a motor. Applies to any car.

Porsche didn't leave much on the table with Sc's. Not a whole lot that you need to do on an SC to keep these cars running. With the addition of Techronin the tank, and oil changes every 3K the rest of what the factory recommends for maintenance works just fine. Stay with factory approved filters and pieces only - not the junk at the local auto parts store. Don't forget to flush your tranny every year or so too - use Swepco there if you DIY.

Hey Mike -

do you guys have Chevron gas stations there? They make Techron additive. A really, really good fuel detergent. Might be able to find it at the local auto parts store. Big black bottle.
