Barn find 83 SC....locked out

Have the car, but cannot even get it on the trailer because of locked doors

Sitting since mid '90's. In both doors the key will rotate counter clockwise, but drivers side has no spring action in handle, and passenger side cannot get key to rotate clockwise which I understand is the direction to unlock.

Have read a slim jim doesn't work on these cars. Any suggestions? Hate to start this project with a broken window!

Thanks

Graphite lube in the lock? Sometimes going from lock to unlock in the door handle will find the groove and allow it to rotate the right way.

Replacement door glass can be found for about $150 or less, and it's not hard to replace. I figure a 25 year old barn car is going to have more problems than just broken glass....

Maybe less hassle than breaking a window - but still a hassle - would be to remove one of the quarter windows and then try to get in the car from there. Carefully remove the trim and then cut the seal to remove the glass.

Do you have AAA? Or maybe call a locksmith? I would not be breaking any windows.

use a cleaners coat hanger(or welding wire)- that is how i used to open it ,make hook- L shape on one end and insert it hear the door lock through the door molding(you can just lift it up and remove it.Then push down and in the same time use the finger on door handle until you feel the wire touching the cross rod ..
worked for me -always;-)

Ivan
oh ya also look under the fenders for a little black box..people sometimes used hideaway boxes with 2nd key..

That quarter window seal is your answer, that or the windshield seal and going in that way. Very easy to remove and one of those two seals likely needs to be replaced anyway. Also won’t do any damage to the car.

quarter window?

Do you mean the quarter window by the A pillar? If I remove seal, that will come out?

Rear quarter window. Don't mess with the one on the door.

Where are you located? Don’t break a window that’s stupid.

Good idea ! I would also try to spray WD40 where the trigger to open the door goes in, in order to drench and unclog the whole area, do so also on the key and try to move from inside to outside to try to unclog the small blades in the lock.

I would do the windshield, probably needs replaced anyway. Dont bend the trim, try suction cups toward the top and pull. If it doesnt budge at all cut the rubber by the glass. If the coat hangar works good!
The trim at the top of the door pops off with clips.

again boys................ the system on opening 911 door is very simple-it is actually silly to discuss it here but nowadays nobody leaves their 911 alone for long time..the wire i suggested has to be band to S shape ..with that you face forward the Shaped piece toward where the rod is once you touch it used the little finger on door handle and push down take less then a minute-at least for me...

Thanks for all the advice! Tried all but the window removal to no avail. This car sat outside from 1996, so perhaps extra challenging. It's a targa so there is no rear quarter window. It's my second SC, by the way, and my second "barn find" SC, (Sooooo lucky!) so I am not completely new to the situation. Spent 3 hours trying to get in... super frustrating. Photos to follow this weekend.

if it is a Targa it is even easier..long solid wire with a small hock on the end. Slide it in on top corner of the glass -back side and try to reach the door handle it should open from inside when you pull..
did you look on the body for spare key?

Ivan

First you need to understand what's inside. Here is a reference pic from another thread.

Pay attention to the "fork" and "finger" at the top. The finger is inside the fork. The finger is an offset lever attached to the key. Turning the key rotates the lever with the finger flipping the fork forward or backward. When the fork is toward the front of the car the car is locked.

You need to slide inside with a tool and move the fork toward the back of the car. A hook tool can grab the front of the fork and pull backward.

Here is another view showing the window channel.
