993 Mirrors on 89 Carrera - Wiring Question

In the June 03 Excellence there's a tech article about doing this swap (on a 944). Gerry Burger indicates that the wires on the 993 mirror are different colors than the ones on the harness in the car. They need to be matched up properly for the mirror motors to work right. Problem is, he doesn't give the wiring detail .

So...I need help to decode the wire color mystery...what connects to what? I'm installing a used set of 993 mirrors on my Carrera in a few days. Does anyone know this information? Or....how I can contact Gerry Burger? Also...is there a way to remove the pins in the barrel connector to avoid cutting and splicing wires? He describes a pin compression tool...?

Thanks,

Porsche Crest

There was a simular article in 911 & Porsche World about changing the the "elephant ears" (964) for "teardrops"(aero mirrors).
I don't know if the wiring for the 964 mirrors is the same as the carrera one"s (they look the same).
I can give you the wiring chart.

You'll need to make some electrical connections when fitting the Aero mirrors. Shown below is a simple chart listing which wires to join to which. Note that the red and white cables on the new mirrors must be joined together.

CAR MIRROR

Brown Brown
Grey/green Brown
Black/blue Blue
Red/white Red and white joined
Blue/grey Black

Mike,

When converting to the electric Aero mirrors on the Carrera you will need to utilize a relay "module" in order to rewire the harness. I used to build the modules.

I'm not sure if the 993 and the Aero mirror are the same. If it is I may be able to help. I'll have to take my mirrors off to assist.

I seem to recal that the Aero mirros were really C2 turbo mirrors. Anyone know if these mirrors are the same?

Rick,

Don't know the answer to your question for sure but...what is a relay module...and why do I need one? My 993 mirrors are in transit...should be here by Friday (I think aero mirrors and 993 mirrors are the same thing). If you could identify which aero mirror wires connect to which wires in the harness, I would be forever in your debt!!!

I looked at your pictures but the car still had flag mirrors. Looks awesome either way!
