40IDA service/rebuild manual? MANUAL
 

Hi all

I’m about to start stripping down some recently acquired Weber 40IDAs that unfortunately weren’t in the condition I expected.

I’ve done some research and seen a few people mention there is a service manual PDF available. Would anybody happen to have access to this please? Unfortunately the accounts that have mentioned this haven’t been accessed for years.

You can also ask me as I've rebuilt mine, or 1quicks (the resident expert here) or just search his posts. There is a manual you can buy on eBay, but it's not all that helpful. I guess it's worth having, but kind of expensive. It shows the weber tools and some break away graphics that are helpful. 99% of the useful information is here on the forums.

There's an eBay supplier out of italy (alfa something), his products are mostly great except the gaskets, the gaskets you should buy from PMO if you can get ahold of them. Larry at youroil dot net has parts listed as well and can get PMO parts.

I also have an explanation of a hidden passage that plagued me on my IG feed here. FWIW in the video on IG I show the wrong side of the carbs for the lead plugs, its not the accel pump side its the plugs on the other side.

I would clear those while you have the carb bodies all apart.

I just did this. It wasn't too bad. I had very good luck cleaning the brass bits by putting them in a glass jar of Chem-Dip that I put in my ultrasonic cleaner for an hour. You'll want to get some little pipe cleaners to physically get into all the little passages. Ultrasonic cleaning, carb cleaner, and compressed air are great, but will leave some crud behind.

I would also recommend buying some jet drills to confirm with certainty that your jets are the size they are marked as, and not drilled out like mine were.

Parts Klassik has the best gasket kit that I could find.

Performance Oriented is a goldmine of information and Paul is incredibly generous with his knowledge.

In my experience with Weber 40IDAs, there aren’t a whole lot of parts that fit in places other than where they belong; just pay attention to where things come from and you’ll probably be fine.

I have gone ahead and purchased the repair manual with some gaskets I was ordering, just in case, but it looks like all of the information I need is on YouTube and this forum.

Appreciate the advice, I will be sure to report back with any hurdles.

I know the throttle on one is very very stiff, which has me nervous, hoping it isn’t a big issue....

Random advice: unless they're original to the car, you might want to consider selling them to offset the cost of a set of PMOs...They're better, don't cost too much more, and I believe are still available freshy fresh.

That may fall down in Australia, though...

Thanks, it’s definitely something I had considered and a used set has actually popped up in my state this week. However, the cost is almost double an average set of Webers.

These Webers will be a good learning opportunity... hopefully
