Wheels, tires, Ti lug nuts, caps. Wow!
'86 M491 Cab, 33P color. Mechanically all new except trans. Just wanted to thank a couple of our Pelican members, Famoroso, and dg657 by handle for all their advice and assistance. For dg567 a major shout out for Customer Service done right. Danny stood with me for 11 days when my "Priority" shipment went MIA. Unsolicited opinion: USPS is worthless, their tracking is a joke, at best!
Car now wears new Fuch's Evo's in 7x16 & 9x16. These wheels are more than worth what you pay for them! Lighter and cheaper than the Original Fuchs, and "NEW". No Refinishing. No wait. Less than half of an old set refurbished and approximately 5 pounds lighter. Delivered less than $4K. Yes you read that right. New Ti Porsche Lug nuts, and caps. New Yoko's in 205x55x16 & 245x45x16. These are light and OEM tires for our cars to boot. Again thanks to all for the great recommendations! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1633214420.jpg |
Danny is a straight up good dude. Bought my air-cooled ‘76 from him. And his titanium bits and pieces are simply gorgeous. Please show us your new wheels and tires!

For any that may be interested, the switch from F19 Kinesis to Fuchs Evo's was easy. Removed front 7mm spacer (necessary for Kinesis) and after cleaning and proper mounting paste, mounted them up and torqued to spec. Tire diameter front and rear was 5/8" total height difference. ride height not adjusted, but now sits 5/16" lower. I really love the Kinesis look, but oh my the ride is much more enjoyable, and weight difference makes the car notably quicker on acceleration.
What do you guys think? Better look stock, or with Kinesis K19's? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1633293310.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1633293310.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1633293310.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1633293310.jpg |
For me it’s not even close. Fuchs by a mile, the others are a horror show.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. I love the bling - they were on the car when I bought it - but 19" wheels and stiff thin sidewalls equal STIFF ride! At less than 5/8" total tire height difference the look is definitely changed IMHO also for the better. Thanks fir the input!

lol horrid is the first word that came to mind. The design is ok just way too big. You did the right thing. Id lower the front a little and loose the box rockers too. But that blue is spectacular

Fuchs are killer. Not going to harsh anyone's buzz; if you like the kinesis that's cool, but man Fuchs look great to my eye.
Also love the centers & nuts. I need to get some fresh centers and nuts for mine. |
Sorry if I was being too harsh. I don’t necessarily dislike the design of the Kinesis but feel they are a terrible fit for an older air cooled car. I’m also a form follows function kind of guy so sacrificing performance for aesthetics on a sports car is abhorrent in itself in my eyes.
Beautiful car. If you want more bling in your life some chrome Fuchs or gold BBS with polished lips would do the trick and still look “period correct” |
No offense taken to any comment, the Fuchs are growing on me, especially in the handling and acceleration department. Plus the ride is exactly how I remember it to be on a previous '86 M491 Cab I had 3 decades ago! The Kinesis 19's are way to big to my eye coupled with the stiff short sidewall, and boy does it make the ride NOT pleasant. But hey it's not a track car, just a (Finally) great example of a period correct Porsche. Thanks to one and all!

I am not a fan of the black fuch's on your car and the Kenesis wheels, while a fine quality wheel, looks horrible too. Maybe a different finish on the Fuchs..... Yuck to both.

Wheels, tires, Ti lug nuts, caps. Wow!
The Fuchs are fine but the silver is distracting and introduces an element that doesn’t exist anywhere else on the car so it feels foreign. Perhaps if they were all black one’s eye wouldn’t be drawn to them and away from the fins which are arguably much more interesting and should stand as the premiere detail without having to fight other elements on the car.

Perhaps color-matching the centers and/or petals on the Fuchs?
|
Car looks 100% better with the Fuchs look wheels. The 19" wheels looked terrible on this car.

The range of appropriate tire weights is more like +/-3# at most |
