Freeze 12

I read in a Hagerty AC article today that talked about R12 and 134r refrigerant. But the article also said that freeze 12 was given the OK to use in our classic cars by the EPA. Has anyone else used this refrigerant ? Thank you.

I used it quite a few years ago in a C3 Corvette. It worked fine and if I recall, I used it because the high side pressure was close to R12 and would be less likely to blow seals in the system and the old axial compressor compared to using R134. I also recall that I had to get the charge weight just right for good performance and may have had to change the size of the orifice tube.
Anyway, it worked fine and the system lasted for years. Just do your research to assure the proper charge and pressures.

I used it long ago in my old NA Miata. Worked great. Wanted to use it in the 911 but now harder to find and not as inexpensive as it was back in the day.

EnviroSafe is a R12 replacement.
Have used it many years, from 911s to Land Cruisers.
works great!
Lower pressures, cools better than 134.

I believe it can.
Check with Envirosafe.

I've always purged, vacuuumed,
then charged.

Important to have the correct amount,
and not over charge= it will be less efficient.

FYI the Enviro-Safe is a blend of propane and butane.

I am currently using R12 in my '86 911 or the now it seems equivalent. Started with R12 years ago but developed a leak. When I went to do a recharge was then called REDTEK and required a different charge hose and adapter. Need to pay attention to the different capacity. Works real well with good vent temps. Currently on Amazon as a kit for 65 dollars. I went this route so I wouldn't need to change the necessary hardware for R134. Really don't know if this better than converting to R134. Just worked better for me. This was something I did myself not a shop.

87maniac,

Are you using this product with the older style, non barrier type hoses, or did you have to switch to the newer type suitable for 134a?

Correction. On my earlier post I should have said I was using Freeze12 and then went to RedTek.

Thanks! I confirmed the use of the old school hoses with EnviroSafe.
