RS Clone.... values? with a pic

I've been to this dealership many times in the past 2 years. The people are very honest, in my opinion. My cousins 964 was cut in half by a Ford Excursion and he's sitting on the 3.6. Wadda you guys think of the RS clone thats 1/2 way down the inventory list as a candidate for the motor and maybe the trans too? Ive seen it and its really beautiful. The guy wants 23.5 for it and i wonder what the motor and trans in it are worth too? Any ideas ?

here is the link:

IMHO, that RS clone appears a little too nice to be a candidate for a project car (for the 3.6 swap). It looks to be a really nice car as-is.

I think you could find a decent donor car for the 3.6 and in the end have less in it than the $30k or so you will now ($23.5k + 3.6 engine).

Just my two cents,

Mike

Neither of us can do the "project" outselves. THats why we thought a car thats already been done would be a cheaper way to go. Everyons "2 cents" are welcome, Thanks

"1973 Carrera RS replica, built from a 73' 911T. Currently a 180hp mechanical injection 2.4L with cams, rebuilt 915 trans with 7:31, all disassembled and painted exceptionally with black trim and 16" alloys. Correct rear flares and script in blue. A California car with many receipts from new. No rust, looks like it belongs in the Porsche museum."

The price sounds about right for a well done clone. Count me among those who might not be overly anxious to swap a MFI 2.4 for a 3.6. But if the 2.4 is as described, it shouldn't be too hard to sell.

Seems like optimistic pricing with that drivetrain. I guess it depends how much documentation they have for the rest of the work. If it was truly stripped to metal, and the body was expertly restored and resprayed, that would add a lot of value to me.

As Bruce Anderson said in a recent Excellence--the value of an RS replica is strictly the sum of its parts. So you'd need a very explict components list to accurately value it.

Don't buy based on lust. Been there. Done that.

Jon, your clone is sweet. I was looking for a ballpark value, basically a polled value here. I wonder what the 2.4 motor is worth too?

I found a '73 T at an auction with an engine fire for my engine swap. Clean, no rust, almost new interior, just some crispy parts under the rear deck lid.

Paid $3900 for it.

I "couldn't" do the swap either, but I sure had fun dinking around in the garage while learning.
It was nice having a complete donor car to grab parts from- a wrecked '87.

The interior of the RS clone looks like a stock T minus the seats and steering wheel!

If this is the car for you, remember there is an asking price ... and then there is a selling price. The market is soft right now, but you're in the correct position.

On top of that deduct the sale price of a 2.4 engine in X condition and add $1000 or whatever it is for the 3.6 conversion.

I've done this before, and I believe it's about the engine and not so much about the car. Having said that, the car you're looking at appears to have the beginnings of a nice Rgruppe clone. The "stock" 2.4 motor could fetch $1500-$2000. If you are looking to add the 3.6, that component will cost you circa $6-$7,000. Setting the car up for this addition will run another$4,000.
Keep in mind, this is much less than many out here have spent with Andial, doing 2.7RS spec and 2.8 & 2.9 twin-plugged motors.
Good luck....

Thanks for the help, if we "go4it" will post the conversion. Really wonder what the 2.4 is worth in a quick sale?
