I found a cheep fix for a nagging problem at Wal-Mart. I have a '70 911 with the long hood. Of course the hood shocks don't support the hood. I was actually there to buy a lug wrench and jack, but while I was there I happened to run across a little plastic gizmo that attaches to one of the hood shocks and basically locks it open when it is opened a certain distance. Kind of like a holder for a screen door. Cors about $8 and I'll never have to use an ugly stick (which is what the PO used as a hood prop) again.

OK OK I have to say something then. WALL MART SUCKS!!!!!!!! Wal Mart= bad quality and a greatly reduced selection of goods. Wal Mart is helping lower the standard of living for America, they move in a town and do Price Penetration where they lower prices so all other competitors go out of business. Then with Wal Mart being the only store left in the area they implement their values on you... they are very into CENSORSHIP. Case in point: Maxium Magazine is no longer allowed to be sold at Wal Mart because the THEY think it is too racy. If you put everyone else out of business then you should be required by law to not impose censorship.
Another point, they are a non-union work place (Now I am by no means Union, I am a businessman and I dislike unions) they pay lower than many of the jobs they have replaced and employees have very very little rights when employed. You will notice Wal Mart has been in trouble with many state governments concerning abusing employee rights. Wal-Mart has been dropped from Fortune Magazine’s list of 100 Best Companies to Work For. America’s largest employer fails to deliver the benefits that their associates deserve for making Wal-Mart the largest corporation in the world. On top of that all Wal Mart only products are cheap plastic crap that you will end up buying 3 or 4 of them in a lifetime rather than 1 or maybe 2 from previous stores. I understand some brand name products are cheaper there, make a stand! Say you don't want their crap stores in your town. Do you realize in Germany Wal Mart would go bankrupt simply because the citizens will not stand for such crap quality of goods. People talk about this being the Greatest Country in the world.... they say this while it rots from the inside from such horrible qualities like Wal Mart. SHAME ON YOU FOR SHOPPING AT WAL MART. It is one of the evilest corporations in the country. Read more: http://www.walmartwatch.com/index.cfm |
i go in wallly world about once a year and hate it. i believe i read somewhere that there budget is bigger than the us government ( hard to believe) they open a new store every two days and they get sued for something stupid everyday.
i support local mom and pops, but wally world is the only place to buy sandpaper past midnight. |
Confused, I couldn't agree more. That exact scenio occured in a small town I lived in Hawaii. For decades the economy was supported by the mom and pop shops. Wal Mart moved in, politically took some Hawaiian homelands, and opened up shop. Now, the business that made the island are gone or hurting. Promises of quality merchandise supporting by corporate marketing really brings in the customers. Now, with the mom and pop shops closed down, there is nowhere else to go. While I am all for the land of opportunity, do we really need garage sale quality items being sold as quality merchandise in every community?

Confused, your screen name is quite appropriate. I think plenty of people in Germany would jump at the chance to buy Mobil 1 at Wal Mart for $4 per qt. It costs over 15 Euros there. They have over 12% unemployment in Germany because they don't let their stores open on Sundays or stay open late on weeknights or Saturdays and unions absolutely run that country. I buy tons of Gatorade, Castrol, toothpaste, deodorant, cleaning supplies, etc. at Wal Mart. If you can't provide name brand products at the lowest price, then you'd better find customers who otherwise just love to throw money away. I'm not one of them. I don't care if Wal Mart runs sweat shops in SE Asia, incorporates in the Cayman Islands or doesn't provide benefits to their employees here. No one is forced to work there. On the other hand, those who work at the super market across the street are forced to join a union. I flipped burgers when minimum wage was $3.35 an hour and was happy to have a job. Did I curse everyone who patronized that restaurant? Boycott Wal Mart and you hurt the lowest-paid employees who most need the job.

Like the Wal Mart business model or not, it's very successful as it gives the masses what they want. If a mom & pop store can't compete then good riddance. My experience locally is that the mom & pop stores that provide excellent service, sales expertise, or unique products have continued to do very well. I would rather spend my money on my P-car than pay an extra $3 for every CD I buy or buck for a quart of oil. As for the junk, well, don't buy it. If you are an informed consumer you can save a lot of money at Wal Mart on name brands. If you buy the Sampo DVD player for $69 then you are on your own. |
How the hell do I change my name anyway?
Look as far as the name brand stuff, I am sure there are alternatives. Target has the lowest prices on CDs, save a couple of bucks there. Doesn't everyone have a Costco yet?SmileWavy Thanks for your support! Free America |
I am mom-n-pop store (IGA grocery started by my grandfather) and we're getting eaten alive by the big guys who charge more than us because the American lemmings shop at the big stores to "save money". The problem is that the public will get what it demands and deserves while the better business goes out. Remeber betamax?

Look...I can see both sides of the issue, and this point can be taken much further....for example, I have very personal and strong views about outsourcing professional jobs ...like engineering...to Ex-Soviet expats or low wage workers from India, etc etc, which debases certain salary expectations.... so let's not go there, as this can mutate into a wholely different thread, as valid as the opposing viewpoints might be.
"confused"..no...there is no Costco near me ...and capitalism, not taken to ridiculous exteremes, is still the arrangement of choice to better everyone'e living standards at all levels. We just need to manage and voice opposition to extreme positions taken in this area. --Wil Ferch |
My only problem with wal-mart is my wife took a part-time job there about 2 years ago. The pay was not that big of a deal because she didnt need to work anyway. She was a stay at home mom and didnt have to work. It was more of a way to get out of the house for a couple of hours a week.
To make a long story short......... My wife left me for a stock boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Buy your oil at Wal-Mart but never let your spouse work there. Steve |
This is a bit off topic, even for this 'off topic' topic, but I bought some stuff at Wal Mart in Germany last time I was there. I think it was some film or something. I couldn't believe that there was a Wal Mart in Germany. I think I even have a picture of my friend Ted in front of the store. On a Porsche related note I was on my way from Stuttgart to the Nurburgring at the time :)

Speaking of better format, I listen to music on my mini disc because 1. it's smaller than a CD player, 2. I can reuse the mini disc over and over again. 3. It can record and play while portable cd players only play, you need a burner to burn some cd. |
I can't believe someone just shamed me on an internet bulletin board. I think I'm going to go shoot myself.

If you need a really good synthetic oil, you might want to try Rotella 5W-40 full synthetic for winter driving. It's a very high quality diesel rated oil. Last time I checked at Walmart, it was priced at $12.88/gal in Colorado.

Actually, I believe Wal Mart is the largest firearms retailer in the US, and before Rosie came along, was only ahead of K-Mart in that area. I almost never think to go there for my ammo needs, but it sure is nice to have cheap gun supplies nearby and available 24/7. Now, if only they could install tritium night sites for me while I wait. They actually have a Mini 14 for sale at the one by my house. What a country!
