Pressure relief springs question

I have assembled my engine.
I did not notice this upon disassembly.
The vertical spring protrudes only about 5 mm
The horizontal one Proteus at least 10mm
I have removed and refitted. Still the same.
I'm sure the piston is not cocked.
But I just want some reassurance.
911 1967S
Std short springs X 2
STD holed pistons.
STD pugs.
So what came out is back in.
Thanks lyndon

Lyndon,

Order the replacement hex plug! Install before exhaust manifold and muffler pipes are on, otherwise painful if you have a little leak here because you will not be able to tighten it once on the car with this screw type plug, and removing is crappy. To remove, find or rig up a flat head type attachment to a low setting impact wrench, zip.... File down the flat head to contour.

Phil

That’s correct, the one on the side is the safety valve, and has more tension on the spring.

I have the new plugs.
But the depth is less than my original ones.
Thus spring tesnson would be different ??
So I refitted the original ones.

I remember that the functional depth was actually the same, there is another dimension that is different and was compensated for by the extra depth. I've also read it posted here.

Do your springs match the 70mm length spec for the early ones? That's worth checking. I'm replacing the safety valve spring in my race motor due to being a few mm short.
