Please help: 76' Wiper motor rest stop not working (relay replaced)
Hello fellow 911 peeps,
I need some advice, help and guidance. I have a 76' targa 911s where the windshield wiper motor does not stop at the proper rest location when I flip the steering wheel stalk back to the 1st position (the stop position). Here is what I have done so far to attempt to diagnose the issue: 1) replaced the intermittent wiper relay with a new unit. No luck. 2) wanted to ensure the wiper motor is functioning correctly for the 'rest stop' function. I ran a directly power line from the battery with a 25 amp fuse inline to pin 53e on the wiper motor. Success, it does work properly. When I power the line the motor runs until it reaches the rest location. 3) From my understanding, the solid blue wire goes from the steering wheel stalk to the intermittent relay, and from the relay, a blue w/ a white line wire to the wiper motor. I attempted to plug the solid blue wire directly into pin 53e on the wiper motor but no luck... One challenge I am running into is that the 76' wiring diagram does not show the intermittent relay (posted the diagram below for reference) It shows the stalk wire's going directly to the wiper motor. Does anyone know where I can find a diagram of the wire routing for the intermittent relay? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1634140789.PNG At this point, I am starting to think it might be the steering wheel stalk but to confirm, I want to test the wire for a signal however does anyone know what I should be looking for? Should there be a positive signal coming from the solid blue wire once the stalk moves from 2nd position (1st speed for the wiper motor) to the 1st position (when the wiper motor should rest stop) is there a signal sent through the solid blue wire to the relay? then a signal from the relay through the blue w/white line wire to the wiper motor? |

Usually the wiper switch contacts need to be tweeked so they contact when the switch is off. Plenty of pics online I'm sure. Intermittents don't work either if that's the case. Rarely, the problem is in the wiper motor parking pad.

Just to add, once the steering wheel and housing plastics are off, just take out the two screws holding the switch and wiggle the switch off the bracket where you can do the adjustment. Don't need to remove any under dash wiring.

In my experience (limited), if the wipers are stopped, in the wrong location, and a gentle push on the wiper stalk (along the line of the steering column) causes them to park correctly, then the contacts just need to be tweaked.

Guys thanks for all the advice and the issue was definitely in the switch. The tiny contact finger was close to touching but not actually. With a slight bit of pressure I was able to have it touch properly when back to the stop position! Saved a lot of money by doing this!
