Speaker Options for 84 Carrera
Would appreciate some commendations on replacing the speakers (doors and rear deck) on my 84 Carrera. I am not an audiophile, but would like decent sound. I would also like to keep them low profile, with grills. Any recommendations would be welcome.

search the forums for "morel" and/or "focal" (two good speaker brand options) and you'll get a lot of good info. I didn't bother connecting my rear speakers but added separate tweeters to my front speakers and am happy with the stereo imaging I'm getting -- I do have a power amp installed under my passenger seat and plan to add a small powered subwoofer there too --

I've got Alpine Type R's in the front and back with a Cerwin Vega 10" under seat subwoofer. Sounds pretty good connected to a cheap Walmart JVC head unit.

Retrosound makes a premium shallow 4x6 speaker that works great in the stock locations on rear deck. No cutting or drilling needed.
And, as someone said earlier, Focal makes a good door speaker that works in the stock location. Both are available at Crutchfield.com for reasonable prices. This is what I did for my '85. Running all four from a Blaupunkt DAB SQR 46. Sounds plenty fine. I also added an 8" Alpine compact powered sub beneath the passenger seat. Doing so takes more work than just a speaker swap, but without it you'll have essentially no bass. Good luck! |
