915 gear whine on the overrun

Folks

I have a 915 gearbox in my 81 MY SC, the 'box was rebuilt 5 years ago (10k miles), the bearings on both shafts that fit into the end of the middle casing were changed, the 4 main bearings at the crown wheel end of both shafts were inspected and found to be fine. The box shifts perfectly and there are no synchro issues. Under acceleration all the gears run quietly, but when you lift off and decelerate using engine braking in 2nd or 3rd gears there is a distinct whine. This does not happen in any of the other gears.

Any thoughts?

I was wondering about the needle rollers in the respective free gears. Can these wear or what about the spacers that they run on?

Cheers

Mike
