It sounds like air in the caliper. Try this, crack the bleed bolt and using a pair of channel lock pliers or equivalent, compress the piston back into the caliper. This method is good for getting that last bit of air that seems to hang out in the caliper.

For an 85, the proportioning valve is alongside the smuggler's box...in the floor area between the box and the MC...under a heavy cardboard cover that requires metal tabs to be bent out of the way to remove. The P/V is a small cylinder with markings like "5/33" on it.

Thanks for the help everyone.

I have gone through 1 1/2 quarts of ATE Blue with no luck.

Hopefully the Caliper parts will arrive tomorrow. I will rebuild them anyway and go through another 1 1/2 quarts and see where I am.

It seems silly to STILL have air in the system after over a quart of fluid though...

there was a big issue on the 914 proportioning valve/whatever

Well if I don't HAVE to rebuild the calipers I won't.

But how DOES one bleed the brakes then?

I always here how many people bleed them at the the track. They don't seem to have this issue like I am - RIGHT???

Hey Nick.. all I want to know is if you still have the copper brown 911, LOL...

and I don't know what's going on w/your brakes.. I'm only throwing options around.. I would start with known good parts.. and if you MAY need a rebuild on the caps, do it.........Ron

Ugh - It's been too hot to be in the garage scrubbing and spewing brake fluid all-over. :p
