any technical magazines?
 

I found plenty of magazines covering vintage 911. Most are pictures and stories, but none are technically oriented targeting DIY as many on this forum. Have I overlooked some titles? Suggestions anyone?

Upfixin der Porsche was pretty technical and you can find copies laying around. They’re not really all that organized though so finding what you want is kind of a pain.

My car came with a few milk crates of them and I thought that was gold at first but then I found… the internet [emoji6]

sure the internet is great, but the idea of a monthly magazine to come in is nice too ;-) Now that amazon gets into brick&mortar stores I don't feel guilty to surrender to the nostalgia of glossy paper and pictures. ;-)

I was thinking of UpFixin as well. I'm old enough that I started reading these before Pelican was around and Rennlist was in its infancy. I still remember articles in those issues, and occasionally I still refer to them in responses to questions here on Pelican. They are a great resource, and if you like reading technical articles and learning about older Porsches, I would recommend them.

There is an index available as a thin pamphlet that accompanies the books. I have one. It's not perfect, but it helps a lot.

I could not resist buying a copy of the volume VII and the index. Thanks for the tip leading to up-fixin. I know most will have been covered a zillion times on the internet and this forum, but these articles were written in the context of 'those days' and the tools of those days . So it's kind of vintage too ;-) Curious to see if that is still helpfull

In the modern era I feel it's much more relevant searching online for DIY blogs or videos. Magazines had their time in the sun, I think, and they're more relegated to art pieces now.

Edit: I should add that there are a lot of good build series on youtube for all sorts of cars and activities.

The mechanic in me, finds the Up-Fixin articles very interesting, even if I'm not using them as a reference. (Which I seldom do.) Same sort of enjoyment I get when reading through an old hot-rod magazine sitting on a table in some waiting room.

You can find individual volumes on eBay. Often there is someone selling them at Porsche swap meets.

When PCA started giving away their last sets (I got a full set.), I thought that PCA was going to digitize them and have them on their web site. But I don't trust my memory. Might be confusing it with their support of the PEP?

I found some vintage issues of Christophorus and they had a ton of technical articles. One even had an engine article by Hans Metzger himself.

The “Service Information Technik” booklets have great info and the figures in them are the sources for many latter tech articles and books. Already mentioned, Christorphorus is one of/the best tech article magazines.

If you want to get heavy-duty, there are random SAE papers submitted by Porsche engineers over the years as well as some German language engineering journals.

I’d love to see a magazine focused on Porsche engineering and tech news- past & present. Or even a cross-marque engineering and innovation newsletter. But I guess that is too small a market ;)

Oh man, I would love to get my hands on any of the existing SAE Porsche papers
