This is almost a futurology post for a fancy coil-on-plug + spark plug, but I like to ruminate about this kind of thing. Given what people are doing with EFI and modern ignitions, it seems reasonable to think this tech might find its way into our cars, and squeeze a bit more performance out of these ancient engines.
https://arstechnica.com/cars/2022/06/pulsed-plasma-ignition-that-boosts-fuel-efficiency-has-passed-testing/ Their primary goal is to increase fuel efficiency in OEM applications, but it seems like a good burn could make for bigger bangs from compression and timing optimization, no? https://www.tpsignition.com/#ignition-solution Maybe I just hate sourcing proper ignition coils and messing with distributors too much... ...and then maybe some Koenigsegg freevalve heads... Very interesting, my first thought after studying the pictures was what about the wear that conventional spark plugs see in an engine. I’ve had Bosch Platinum plugs wear and the center electrode was recessed .100” past the ceramic tip. It was as a stock CDI in my 1972 911T if you were wondering. Maybe the pictures are early stages of the development.
