anyone ever have a momo steering wheel re-covered
I've got and old MOMO wheel from the 70's not sure of the model only that it is no longer available. I would like to have it re-covered. Anyone been there done that? I got a quote from a local upholstery shop at $250.00 ...seems high.
thanks

That does seem high. Just how shot is this thing? How many spokes does it have? Is just the rim worn or is there leather on the spokes. You can get a DIY kit at the local Autozone and stitch it on for under $30. Or if you want something nicer I'd contact Alan Gunn and see if they have a cover to fit it.

I'm trying to get the same answer for an old prototipo. I've got all the parts, bad leather and general clean up required. I'd stitch it myself if I can find a skin kit that is better than wheel skins, plus I don't want to pay someone else the hourly wage if I can do it myself while listening to the news...

I have considered talking a local shoe cobbler to re-cover mine. ...I'll post if I have him do it.

Alan Gunn emailed me and they do have kits that will work on MOMO wheels, 50 bucks. He made it sound as if it is more work than doing a porsche wheel due to the construction. Not sure if that was a pitch to get their folks to do the work at 180 bucks or not...for the 130, I'll give it a shot. It would make my used prototipo I got for 35 bucks more than a new one...maybe I should have seen this coming.

On my early style Momo wheel the leather goes up each spoke about an inch. It does not appear to be stiched on in this location. It looks more like it is glued.
