Opinions wanted: windshield tint

I’m getting ready to replace my clear pitted ‘83SC windscreen.

I see that there are options to go with a green tint at the top of the replacement glass, and a smoked/dark tint at the top.

I realize that this is entirely a personal preference, but for those who replaced their clear glass with a tint, what do you like or dislike about your choice?

Also seeking options for outlets to acquire the glass.

Thanks, Pelicans!

One thing to remember is that any tint will effect a laser detector and possibly a radar detector.

If choosing a color for the tint I would maybe consider how it goes with the car's color. For my silver car if I was picking a color I'd go with the gray.
But in truth I have a banner across the top of the windshield so I'd go with a clear windshield to work well with a shaded banner.

Its not just the top of the windshield. The whole glass is tinted slightly. I also seem to remember that the other windows are slightly tinted (green in my '83's case) so be sure you get whatever matches the others.

Right now my go-to for windshields is "kool kats auto glass". Aside from their bizarre name and ancient website, they've been an absolute home run. Great customer service, selection, packaging and reasonable pricing. I've bought PGW (formerly PPG) and Sigla from them - I wouldn't bother paying extra for Sigla unless you had an early car and really needed to win that local concour.

As for tint, I ditched the visors in my targa so I opted for the dark tint. It seems to do it's job and I really didn't notice the color change visually.

Back in '84 I moved from New Mexico to Seattle. Everybody in NM has tinted glass, so when I bought a new '84 GLI, I ordered a tinted windshield. (Remember when you could tailor how you wanted your new car?) Anyway, I ended up hating a tinted windshield with the constant grey skies. Just a data point I wanted to share.

The trick here is to match the windscreen tint with the rear windshield and the side windows. If they have a mild green, use that, if they are clear, use that. The strip at the top of the windscreen is mostly up to your preference. I doubt there will be any visibility or radar detector performance issues regardless of your choice.

There are thin plastic sheets (like Saran Wrap) you can put on your windshield for rally racing. Just pull it off at the end of the stage, and presto - clean windshield. You can even stack them to go from stage to stage.

edit: example

Great idea! I'd already canned the Madico Clearplex idea - they want significantly more than the cost of the windshield to apply their product.

The tearoff idea is great because you could DIY apply them for the rally then remove. They don't currently offer a vintage 911 size, but considering the shape didn't change for three decades, I doubt they'd have an issue with ROI. The only question would be cost, but should be less expensive as there's no "professional" installation necessary.

The tint didn't so enough sun degrading for me and that is a lot of windshield...I slap on a matte black windshield visor stripe....It also hides my radar detector pretty well...
