AC Compressor Question
Hello
I’m looking at a car that’s value is largely tied to its originality. I found an old picture showing the original compressor and for some reason now it has a newer compressor. I don’t know much about AC in cars and generally prefer not to have it in an old Porsche but since it’s there, is this newer compressor an upgrade? Is it bad the old one is gone? Thank you!!! Well new compressor is much lighter and much less drag on engine. The old York unit not very efficient. I would not think new one would hurt value of car, unless your going to show car as original

Many of the old compressors were a piston style. They were like a one cylinder engine and rather rattling things.
Newer ones are scroll compressors and quieter and more efficient. Unless you are going for a 100 point show car, you will like the newer compressor. |
That new compressor also means the system is upgraded from R12 to R134.

Thank you all.

I'm keeping my old york in the cupboard until it is irreplaceable must-have for some future owner to 100 point resto the car. Future owner will thank my foresight and hoarding. (i hope) |
