James: Can you expand a little bit on why you did not include a reverse lock-out? Thanks.

Bill,

Just let me know what works for you. I will be there the whole weekend or we could arrange some other time to meet and let you check it out. If you come out, this is our car.

Did everyone notice that the shifter also has positive adjustable stops for both 3rd and 4th gears to minimize the wear on the syncros caused by pushing or pulling the shifter into gear too hard? This is something that has been missing from the 911 shifter since the beginning.

A reverse lockout will be available as an bolt-on option to RennShift shifters.

I like the shifter. When will it be available for other testers, or when will it be ready for public consumption?

Second question: Can you give me some advice on what shift reduction to choose? I currently use the factory short shift kit, and I like it a lot.

Jurgen you have PM.

I recommend 20% for most people. If you change your mind after purchase, I can modify the shifter for a different throw (for a fee and you must ship it to me).

I just want to add a clarification here, as it was pointed out to me that this post seems like a blatent advertisment.

Yes, this shifter is a product I am building and selling.

Slider79SC was not solicited to place an "ad" here for me. He saw a brief comment about my shifter a few weeks ago and was very interested in getting one and trying it out at a track day that was up-coming. I thought this was a great opprotunity (he also has in-car video) to get the shifter tested by someone who has driven with some of the other aftermarket shifter products.

I asked him to test the shifter and send it back if he did not like it. As you see, he obviously liked it, and he asked me if it was OK from him to try to drum up more business for me. He is paying for the shifter in order to keep it.

I hate faked up ads as much as you all do - I hope you don't consider this to be one of them.

Ditto on what James just said, I certainly didn’t intend for this post to seem like an ad. I asked permission from James if I could put a post out here because I was so impressed with the shifter, so if it seemed like an ad then I certainly apologize if it came across that way.

I actually purchased two of these from James. The one that is in my car currently and one for my RSR project.

Like James said, I have had many different shifters in my car trying to discover what best fit both my wife’s and my driving needs. I have tried everything from a stock shifter all the way up to the $600 dollar shifter that has had some buzz on the board lately. I took that shifter out and sold it because of difficulties that we experienced. (probably due to driving styles)

The reason that I ranted and raved so much about James’s new shifter is that I had finally found something that worked perfect for both of us and greatly improved the way our car feels.

Again, I apologize if this seemed like a blatant ad, it was not intended to be that way.

And yet, it worked so well... Sent James an e-mail.

RallyJon,

The sad thing is that some people will not be able to see past the fact that this was not an ad, and take advantage of the information that was provided.

I’m glad to see that you have a sense of humor about the whole thing and have contacted James. It is truly a good product, you won’t be disappointed.

Didn't sound like an ad to me Slider, you clarified yourself. It sounds like your just happy with the product and want to spread the word.
This shifter and the Stromski coupler mentioned in another post sound's like they might be a couple of nice upgrades.

Thank's for the info. ( Your day job isn't in sales is it ? just kidding )

Is this shifter better than Sherwood's shifter kit?

hmmm - looks interesting.

I heard "everything" aftermarket, in terms of shifters was garbage. This is new who knows. Anyone have an idea of how it holds up to time? Has anyone seen transmissions broken down after a bunch of miles? I'm assuming James ran it foe awhile before marketing it...

It really scares me w\ out the reverse lockout - sometimes I go looking for sixth gear

Gee, from what I've read/heard, the only "garbage" product in the shifter aftermarket is the Weltmeister short shifter. All the other stuff--from WEVO to Stomski to Sherwood--has gotten nothing but praise.

I can attest that the Weltmeister is garbage. I can't speak about any of the others.

Slider79SC,

What were your ill feelings about the Wevo $600 shifter?

In all honesty, I had only one problem with it. The shifter was very tight between gears (side to side movement) and I grew accustomed to thinking that I could shift quicker than I should and ended up stuffing it in first under full throttle from second. The tightness also made the shifter seem notchy. I am not bashing the product, just letting you know what our observations were.

The biggest reason for getting rid of it was that the spring tension to get it into second was very stiff and my wife just absolutely hated it. She is very petite and while strong it just didn’t suit her well. Every time she drove, she came in and told me of the problems she had.

Update on the Rennshift shifter:

We just had a DE this weekend and my wife and I loved the new shifter from James. She said it was very comfortable for her and she never felt that there were any guessing or inaccuracies with her shifting. She is great driver and I trust her interjections with the car. After reviewing the in-car video (and driving myself), I can fully say that the shifter worked perfect and without a hitch.

I have some good in-car footage if I can figure out how to get it converted to an mpeg or something similar. One video from out the windshield (standard view) and one with the camera pointed towards the shifter.

Send a message via AIM to NoLift911
I have a question about the two bolts that seem to stick out the front and back...kinda look like boot rippers? Can they be shortened? Those things are screaming for my Dremel tool
