What is this Socket For?
 

I just purchased a 1983 911SC and sorting out electrical snd found an open socket. My guess it is seatbelt warning Rely. Photo is looking into the Fuel/Oil Level Gage hole.

Thanks Proporsche, my car doesn’t have jumpers but it is not misbehaving with lights and buzzers and the engine cranks and starts. What are your thoughts on this. Did the jumpers allow the car to start? Maybe my car was modified elsewhere?

Do not understand your statement.

I have an '87 but I doubt it's different. The missing buzzer should not cause the car to not start. My experience is that, without the relay, the following is different:
1. There is no buzzer that sounds when the door is open.
2. The seat belt combo light did not light a couple of the lights on startup.

Most people remove the buzzer because of the annoying sound. My car didn't have it when I bought it. I bought a used one, which would be my recommendation.

The car is operating fine, no buzzers and light out of the display. Car starts and has no problems. I don’t have a relay in the socket. I don’t have jumpers as seen in my photo. Just wondering about the jumpers. Why jumper when pulling the relay accomplishes the silencing of the annoying buzzer and extinguishing the warning light.

My question is more of curiosity. Is my car modified elsewhere is my thought.

I think the early SC's and possibly even earlier 911's the seat belt buzzer would buzz when you turned the ignition on and your seat belt was not fastened. Also if I remember correctly the buzzer would sound if the emergency brake handle was applied (up). There was also a sensor located in the drivers seat bottom cushion that sensed some one was setting in the seat, this was also in the buzzer circuit. Over time the seat sensor would malfunction and the buzzer would continue to buzz as you drove down the road. As stated most owners would simply pull the relay but that may also have prevented the seat belt lamp on the dash from working correctly.
The seatbelt buzzer circuit would not keep you from starting the engine on a SC.
