Official Porsche dealership fitted immobilisers?
Hi Guys,
My dream comes true on Saturday when i pick up my new baby. One thing i`d like cleared up however is the immobilser which was installed by an official Porsche Dealership in the UK. On the invoice is states "Porsche Immobilser" and the part number is 999.999.795.01. It was installed in 1995 to go along with the stock alarm. Can anyone tell me if this immobiliser is indeed a genuine porsche made part and if it conforms to Thatcham industry standard? Thanks in advance. McRod |

I can check the part number when I get home - mine is a Porsche one and I have the certificate for the insurance with the part number on it. The immobiliser is accepted as Cat 2 Thatcham for UK insurance (or has been by all the companies I've contacted for insurance). For guidance the key should be about 1.5 " long by about .5" wide black with Porsche lettering along its length and the copper contacts sticking out (5??) Ron Thatcham is a UK insurance industry standard for anti theft devices - the Uk industry usually requires such a standard for alarms and immobilisers. Actually Thatcham is a small town outside Newbury where the British insurance industry research centre is located (does it ever worry you how much useless information you pick up from the web??) Cheers

Thanks Guys,
I`ll get a better look at it, and it`s corresponding documents at the weekend. The owner says it was fitted in 1995 by AFN Porsche in Surrey so i`d assume it is Thatcham approved. McRod |

I had a Porsche immobiliser when I got my car - no certificate though. My insurance company made me get a new one fitted or no insurance. I used Hannahs on Gt Western Road.

Thanks Chris,
i`ll re-check tomorrow when i pick the car up. There is a receipt along with the immobiliser and i`m sure if it is Thatcham approved, there`ll be some sort of literature with it. Out of interest, how much was your Thatcham Immobiliser from Hannah`s?, we have an account with them. McRod |

I think it was about £220 ish. It's a Meta M99 -36T
BTW I went and had a quick look at the white cab the other day. I think you made the right decision. It was a shame to see such a tired looking car considering it was the last year of production.

The salesman phoned me and offered me it for £14700.00 about 3 weeks ago. Quite a drop from the advertised price. McRod |

I've checked the part number and it's the same as mine. To get a certificate I simply rang up my local dealer and told them what I wanted - they asked a few questions (basically describe the fitting) and sent me a certificate by post - saved me fitting a new one and the additional hassle of taking the Porsche one out. Cheers

Brill Roy, thanks matey.
I`ve actually found what looks like a certificate for the immobiliser among the mountain of paperwork that came with the car. I`ll see if the Insurance Co are happy with it. Cheers McRod |
